Could someone give any info on how to spot the differences between the pirate copy and the original? Is the red vinyl version always a pirate?

Yes; I am afraid so. Genuine copies were cut on regular black vinyl only.

Any pressing of any Smile-thing (and Larry Lurex too) on coloured vinyl is a bootleg.

I wouldn't give a penny for a pirate. $25 is probably a fair price.
