I just witnessed a horrible motorcycle/car accident. I pulled out of my corner convenience store after putting air in one of my tires. Out of nowhere this motorcycle sped by me, going around me.. it's just a two lane road. I was already close to 40 mph so it must have been going 60 - 80 because it seemed twice my speed.
It scared the hell out of me and I watched as it continued to speed along blocks ahead of me, when a car pulled out in front of it, just like I'd (apparently) done.. and it hit the side and the rider shot up into the sky. I don't see any way he could have survived but I'm hoping for a miracle.
I called 911 and told them what I saw but they'd already had many calls about it.
I just feel so sick and upset. It could have been my car.. actually I wish it had been.. might have been a lower speed collision since I was near an intersection.

Oh God Deaconfan!! I'm so sorry. I really don't like motorcycles. My husband insisted on getting one and I fear it'll be the death of him.
I hope you feel better soon.

I think a rather large brandy might be the order of the day. There's nowt like it for shock. I always keep a bottle handy when my accountant calls round, rot him.
I'm sure if you ask nicely, Bob The Shrek will cheer you up with some of his 'street pizza' undertaker tales.
Sorry. Just a thought.

Sorry to hear that DF :(

Well, local news said he died instantly and an old couple in the car even went to the hospital with minor injuries.
They estimated the speed at 60.. I say it was faster. They haven't released his name or age until family can be notified.
The bike stayed there at the car and he went flying.. they didn't say whether he had a helmet on and I didn't see.
I'm still freaked out but not so upset.

You can rely on me for the nasty comment too:
The chances are, they could have nailed his body to a swastika - think about it.

Here's a somewhat incorrect story from our ABC station: http://www.kake.com/home/headlines/853047.html

A deadly accident involving a motorcycle causes traffic problems in southwest Wichita today.
A motorcycle and a car were involved in the accident near the 1900 block of W. MacArthur Road, just east of Meridian. Police and accident investigators investigated the scene. A motorcycle was traveling down MacArthur at a high rate of speed with one or two other motorcycles, when a car coming out of a mobile home park hit it.
I live at 2206 W. by the way. The car was not coming from a mobile home park... there are none there. It was coming out of a privately owned area with one mobile home and a small lake. And the car did not hit the motorcycle. The car was pulling out to the left when the bike hit the car on its side.
I didn't see any other motorcycles but I guess it makes sense now.. he was trying to catch up to them. Brilliant.
Police say the incident highlights the need for following speed limit signs.
Oh, you think so Sherlock?
Police are trying to contact the victim’s family. McConnell Air Force Base says the victim was stationed there.

Very sad. Probably a young soldier. Perhaps the Air Force should teach some fucking driving skills.

If the car was pulling out, then surely the car driver is at fault. Fair enough the biker might have been speeding but he would still have right of way. The driver either didn't see the bike or mis-judged how fast it was going. Very common unfortunately.
As well as teaching the biker to drive at a decent speed, people should be taught to be more aware of motorcycles - I have had a few near misses in my time.

Well I apparently had a near miss without even realizing it.. when he came out of nowhere and zoomed past me. They do mention in the full story that the position of the sun might have been a factor too.
I had no trouble when I looked to the left and saw nothing. In fact bikes are supposed to have headlights on all the time and I saw no light when I pulled out. He could have been turning onto the street at the intersection when I pulled out.. that could be it, but if so he did it unsafely after the light had changed, because I saw the light (for East-West) change and nobody moving yet.
He was still accelerating and you know how motorcycles sound when they're doing that, it's a bit unsettling to begin with. And he just kept going faster and faster. I kind of knew something was going to happen otherwise I might not have kept watching, because my turn was coming up.
I'm moving into the 'anger stage' because now that I'm calmer, I'm mad that this is going to haunt me. It's hard to detach yourself from something like this. He had just gone around me and then hits a car in front of me.. it's freaky.

I wish I had some practical advice on how to deal with the demon of remembering such an event but I don't, everyone has their own way of dealing with such things. I am a callous, uncaring sort of person - I don't allow things like that to upset me - if I did I would never ride a bike or drive a car again.
Sorry.

yeah, well me and my friend once saw a dead body in the middle of the road. There was a huge car accident. It wasn't a really pleasant view Next day we read from the ewspapers that father and two sons died. Their mother and one daughter survived
What's the point of making such terrible posts? It only makes people sad :(
