Do you think this is real? It says it was released in 1997. Did DVD exist in 1997?

Yep, its real. I have one - official release originally released with a DVD player as promo - trying to promote sales of DVD players. Un-trimmed videos, nice item!

Actually, the reverse is true. The versions on this disc are UNCUT and in their original broadcast format (ie: 4x3) rather than a butchered 16:9.

I'm confused, John. Are you saying that the promo dvd has the videos in full, just like the official GVHits dvds do?
I was under the impression that the promo dvd was basically the Flix series that's out on VHS. And from what I've read, looks like it's basically the VHS tape transferred to dvd. And if that's true, then it's more of a collectable. Yes?

On the contrary! It apparently has improved video quality, especially on the Flix II side! Some say it's even better quality than the GVH DVD's!

The quality is indeed great. But I digress -- the quality on the Jewels DVD beats them all! Especially for having the original videos, not the edited versions which drive me crazy!

I think the GHII vids are better than the GVHII!

Depends on what you mean Adam.

It is true that this set is incomplete as it omits some videos (the Hot Space set springs to mind) which are available on GVH I & II DVDs. So for completists obviously the Greatest Video Hits DVDs are the cheapest and best discs to purchase. Another advantage of the GVH DVD series is that the sound has been 5:1 remastered.

However, it is also true that the videos featured on this stereo promo DVD disc (and on the Laser Disc equivilent) are complete, digitally remastered, uncut and in their true 4x3 format.

This is not yet another Brazillian "bootleg" transfered from VHS - but an official digitally remastered product. So for those who wish the for that "true" experience - than this set is the best.

As an owner of both - IMO - I prefer the promo Hits DVD as I am both a "Keep it to the original ratio aspect" believer and it also reminds me of my youth when I used to watch Queen videos on television and the original "Flix" video set.

Too bad I don't have enough faith in my fellow human beings to actually buy something from Ebay, otherwise I would have.

Why? several of us have told you it's good, so go for it!!
John, I like the laserdisc versions too. I much prefer the presentation of the videos and the sound quality...though I have the UK and US versions of GVH 1 and 2 and notice a distinct difference in sound. The import (UK) is superior to the US versions.
But, as I keep crowing, the Jewels DVD is far superior to all! Videos are cleaned up and are as clear as when they were first presented to the public. Don't Stop Me Now is totally original, no stupid freeze-frame at the ending. So is Under Pressure with the mad-scrambling Japanese people.
The sound on all videos is unbelievable, very close to DVD-A. Very worth the investment if you own a region-free DVD player!

Ooh, it went for $82.43 US dollars, good price and I'm sure some sniping near the end of the auction!
I finally won an auction last night for an 8" The Works EP on laserdisc, never opened and still sealed!! WHOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

It's not so much that I don't trust you (although this forum is famous for stuff like telling people (especially "newbies") that if they own a Made In Heaven cd with 20 minutes of weird sounds at the end they have a rare misprint and should sent it to Queenproductions so they can have it replaced by a good cd WITH an autograph of all 4 four members of Queen), I just don't like sending money to someone and then hoping the person can be trusted enough to sent the item. I'm Dutch you know, us Dutchies don't like losing money :-).

Anyway, I was just interested in this item because I didn't know DVD was already that old.
