Best Queen Book

What would be the best book to read if i really wanted to get REAL information on Freddie, brian, john and roger (like a biography or a behind the scenes book). But y'know what'd be really cool ?
A book like that movie almost famous (someone else's
maybe an outsiders look on their life or a tour?)
Whichever, because no offense to queenzone but the biography is pretty bland - well written - tho.

It's Freddie. That's always helpful to know if you're a Queen fan.

As It Began by Jim Jenkins and Jacky Gunn (Smith). Very well-written and easy to find on Ebay!

Indeed. As It Began is great - though it's a bit too positive on everything they did. But it's definetely the best biography out there.

Other recommended reading: The Early Years. I hope Roger someday decides to write his autobiography - reading Crystal's stories and stuff, he's had some interesting moments in his life :D

Also recommend (NO DON'T SHOOT!) "Mercury & Me" by Jim Hutton. Very moving, to say the least, and impressively written for a non-writer.

I am currently reading a biography on Freddie Mercury (title) written by his personal assistant and I think it is really well written with a good balance of facts and oppinions. I also know A&E had a Biography on Freddie so you could check that out.

Nice book - but I got really sick of the "We were not amused.", "I was not amused.", "He was not amused." etc.

I agree, I like Mercruy and Me, too. I know it was a violation of Freddie's privacy, but they really did love each other, and that's the feeling I got from the book. The last chapters had me in tears.

It's has a lot of information from pre-Queen to after Freddie's death.

No more a violation of his privacy, really, than anything on The Smoking Gun is a violation of anyone else's. And we all laugh our asses off at that.

I agree with you about the last chapter, though.

Lots of errors too. It talks about how "it's creator finally sang I'm In Love With My Car live on-stage" when the Cross toured in 1988. Ofcourse Roger had been singing the song with Queen since 1978. Lots of other poorly researched stuff too.

Get As It Began. If you like pre-Queen information, get As It Began. If you'd like to read more about Freddie's personal life, get either Peter Freestone's book or Jim Hutton's. I prefer PF's book - I'm not really fond of all the details in Jim's book.... If you like pictures, get Killer Queen ;)

Peter's has a lot of nice bits in it, especially about the making of the videos, which a lot of Queen books don't really explain much about. Everytime I watch AKOM, I look carefully to see if I can see Freddie shivering because it was "so bloody cold"!
