While reading the topic "A trivial little question that's been bugging me...", I started thinking about all the different versions of this song, And wanted to see what other zoner's thought was the best one. For me, I have to say the "Rah Mix" would be it! There is some neat sounding new guitar and drums, Plus that new intro... PRICELESS! So, Now it's your turn! What's your favorite version and why?

***Keep in mind, This is only for studio versions, Because, If we included live ones too, Well... I hate to think of the horror that would ensue. ;)

yep i like it too. Most remixes of queen songs are crap - the "Rah Mix" sounds very good. I enjoyed the video too - kinda spooky seing Freddie and Bowie on stage "together".

Personally, the b-side on the Rah single - The Mike Spencer mix. It has the same new guitar/drums, except it was mixed fairly like the original. I like the Rah mix. But some of the elements like the pitch-shifting of Freddie's vox are very ugly to me. Love that video, though.

Peace,
Adam.

i'd have to go with The Blood Brothers' cover....HAHAHAHA....no j/k

(actually it stands up better as strictly a Queen cover rather than a blood brothers song - compared to the blood brother's original material)

I like both versions, the new beat and intro are cool, but really I just listen to which ever one i'm in the mood for...both are good, although I'll always have a inclination towards the original!

The Rah mix is great, but in the original, John bassline is more obvious. And the bassline is splendid on this song (aargh, and Vanilla Ice stole it and made a huge hit because of John's bass). Anyone agrres with me that this is robbery?

The original version, uncut and in its simplicity, is the best one really! Freddie's and David's voices challenged and bounced off one another's so well. The RAH mix is nice but the mixed-in concert sounds make me a little leery of the actual content of the song.
And Vanilla Ice? Slap him with a wet mung bean sprout!

i wouldn't have minded if Vanilla Ice did what most rap stars do when sampling other people's music - acknowledge it!

But i remember seeing him in an interview where he claimed his base line was very different! although I'm sure he was deliberately taking the piss.

I like the energy of the Rah Mix, but my favourite is probably the '92 remix. It's true to the original while having a cleaner sound which I like.

Can't really think of a version I don't like though. It's a great song in almost any configuration.

Here's a file I did just for fun. It's the original version with the extra bass bit added that Mr. Ice said made his version so different:
