Today I received the Japanese double cd and the DVD from Queen Greatest Karaoke Hits. I've made two mp3's available.

Thanks Rien!

From these two it's clear that they've restored the intros and outros! (Like I did on my little instrumental project) I'm gonna have to get this after all :)

I had a feeling they might do that :)

Hey, I've got a tip for you, to cut down on bandwidth..

Check out http://www.archive.org/web/freecache.php

All you have to do is add http://freecache.org/ to the beginning of your links for files (they have to be over 5 MB) and they will supposedly be served from a cache on another server... well, you can read about it there :) Thanks to sully for posting about this in the Queenzone section.

Ok DF I have a look at that link.
Because I just noticed that there's no bandwidth left on my site - in 1 day over 5GB of download.
Just ordered 5 more and that's the max until 2nd August.
(I'm just getting poorer and poorer!)

Also added The Miracle.
It's amazing when you hear some of the songs in this way. I think The Miracle is really great.

btw I copy my Queen cd's to harddisk as MP3.
With the karaoke cd's it's not completely working. First time around I picked STL and TYMD from disc one, no problem. Then I decided to convert the whole cd into mp3 and guess what... MusicMatch told me it couldn't be converted in a digital way, therefore only 30 seconds of each song is converted and from the last 4 tracks nothing. Just playing the cd in my computer didn't work at all - only 20 seconds.
The second disc I could convert about 13 tracks and the last three had the same problem as disc one. Haven't played it on my cd-player downstairs, but I guess this is the copy-protection?

Yep, sounds like the copy protection I ran into with a Donna Summer CD.. I couldn't extract the whole thing, and it was the last two tracks on each disc which were the problem. I couldn't play these tracks at all.. the computer would insert loud glitches in them, and my DVD player would freeze up.

I tried all sorts of CD ripping software.. Exact Audio Copy was able to correct one of the 4 corrupted songs, but it would give up on the others after a long wait.

Maybe I won't get this after all.. much as I'd love to have the restored and remastered versions, if it's the same type of copy control I've had one encounter with, I won't even be able to play them all the way through.

You know in some cases they actually put big errors on the disc.. glitches similar to if there was a scratch which your player is then supposed to compensate for by covering the glitch with sound from before and after it. That's what makes me furious. They sell these as brand new CDs but they fucking have errors and technically they aren't real CDs. It's like paying full price and getting a horribly scratched up disc.

Are the rips taken from the CD or the DVD???
R
They are taken from the cd.
And I just noticed that on both cd's there's a blank circle just before the 4 last tracks.
You sometimes see this on a extended cd where there is a video on it as well. So when the player reaches that point the recording software is giving up.
I'll see what I can do with the DVD because you would like to hear the tracks from that one DF?

No, I have the DVD.. that's where I shared my recent ones from. But on the DVD they haven't restored things such as the guitar intro on TYMD or the full ending of STL.

If there's a ring like that.. then maybe you would be able to bypass it and go straight to the following tracks individually.. but I don't have a lot of experience with such things.

I would like to hear 'Keep Yourself Alive' from the CD if it has the full intro now because that was one of the worst originally.. it faded in right before the drums started.

Tried it, didn't work out.
KYA happens to be the last track of disc one.

I love these. Thank you! Now I need to buy the CD to hear the rest!
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.
P
Well, don't worry about sharing that... I can wait.

But more importantly, don't give up yet on being able to rip the tracks. These things can be frustrating but I just have a feeling that there's probably some software that will ignore that blank space and get the tracks for you. I could be wrong.

I would try Exact Audio Copy. http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

In fact I wish you would.. because I want to know if there's a way to copy this before I buy it. :) I have a practice of only playing copies of CDs.. I put the original discs away for safekeeping. And especially in the case of an expensive import like this.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this crap! Hopefully they'll stop this copy control nonsense soon.
P
Then again, I'll probably buy it eventually regardless. I am after all, the karaoke mix god. Too bad I don't sing... well, not publically.

I wonder what they did with the booklet if it's in a slim case now. The original has a very thick booklet which would never fit in a standard case.

thanks Rien, you're my favorite Queenzoner :)
