The "Live at Wembley" set seems to be one of the most debated Queen works at this forum.
Do you think the music (NOT the performance, video, or atmosphere) makes the CD worth buying? Meaning, is it good enough to purchase?

By no means. It's two CDs full of Queen music, who would like to have this? Sure nobody who reads a Queen forum.
For a fan- it is. For a collector- a must.
General rock public- no, it isn't... Can't imagine someone who's over the moon about LIVE IN LEEDS The Who or HOW THE WEST WAS WON and ISN'T a Queen fan enjoying this particular concert... Set list too obvious and performance too weak... MILTON KEYNES will be a different story...

By "music" I meant how well they performed it...and when I said "NOT performance" I meant the visual.
In my opinion (well known, anyway) the performance was definitely the worst during the entire Magic Tour... And it wasn't the best tour either (sorry William, sorry MAGIC TOUR fans...!), IMO... If you listen to Budapest, Knebworth or Laiden- the performance is much, much better. Freddie's voice on saturday night @ Wembley was in pretty bad shape, and the versions of IWTBF or WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS are absolutely awful, even though overdubbed... The whole band sound a bit tied and nervous, how different to what happened only 24 hours before!!!! I find it pretty boring as well... Threre are exellent bits, mind you!!! All in all however, IMO, it's not one of their greatest gigs... What the heck- it's not even one of their better gigs...

One of my favorite magic tour concerts are Madrid and Knebworth.
I really don't like the overdubs on the wembley DVD but besides that the performance is good but Freddie's voise wasn't in a good shape that night, maybe the first night at wembley was even a bit better..

i totally disagree with people who say that the wembley concert wasn't good, i've listened to a lot of magic tour concerts and despite there are a lot of better concerts than wembley (like stockholm, knebworth and leiden (second night),(i like also brussels but unforntunately the audio quality is only good) that are the best concert of the tour)the band play very well and they feel the pleasure to play that was totally lost in the works tour:freddie's voice wasn't at his top but it is very powerfull and aggressive unlike other magic tour shows, the strumental lines are great!hammer to fall is one of the best version i ever heard, we will rock you is great!the introduction is too powerfull and bohemian rhapsody, tutti frutti, tie your mother down, the guitar solo, is this the world we created, seven seas of rhye are great!in my opinion that's one of the causes that bring them to realise wembley as official video.
i think that the worst shows of the magic tour are mannheim, frejus and marbella and slane castle (i didn't listened to the munich shows)

Yes you should buy it, it is a great album and definetly worth the money, it's absolutely brilliant
Yes Yes buy it! I bought the audio Cd first also. I didnt even know they had a dvd for it out. But as soon as i heard it, i pretty much had to have the dvd to go along with it so i could see it. I liked it alot. Go on out and buy it!

Are they only a bunch of idiots?Brian in his soapbox recently said they were watching Milton Keynes and he said he was surprised how good they were... seems like he didn't watch the other shows for a awhile... So they/he don't remember... of course it was important for them- two night @ Wembley... But Friday's performance was far better!!! Does Brian remember it...? Very curious, actually...
the friday night concert is technically better than the saturday concert, but the saturday concert has more groove and feeling than the friday concert
I think they may have released Wembley so soon because they actually had it available in decent quality. And it's pretty cool to have played at Wembley :)
But listening to Wembley makes my throat hurt when I hear Freddie having to scream to get any sound out. The beginning of TYMD for instance just sounds like his voice could go at any time.
I still like it but I like Budapest better...it seems to have more energy. Plus you can actually see the lights since the show was at night....

People who have listened to the above Magic Tour concerts can judge all of the shows objectively. You're just comparing it to the other official releases.
Queen never regarded Wembley as one of their best. They have just done so much with it because it was one of the few that were properly filmed with the intent for release. You don't see Brian talking about Glasgow 77 and Newcastle 79, do you? Of course not, because there is no commercial reason for any media attention. However, I think those are two of the greatest shows Queen ever performed.

First of all, I'm not Mr Magic Tour expert, because I'm a woman and I can only be Miss Magic Tour expert. Second, I remember I've asked why this show is so debated. It can't be both crap and masterpiece at the same time. Either it's good, either it's crap... The truth is it's not crap. The second Wembley night had more feeling in it... it says it all. Music (and art) are more about feeling than about technical perfection, in my opinion.
I didn't say the Wembley second night is Queen's best gig, I just said Queen themselves tend to look at it as their best. It's their opinion, not mine. If I had seen all the other Magic Tour shows, I'd have provided you with my precious opinion. I said only that I liked this concert more than their other releases, you can't kill me for that, right?
Besides that, QueenZeppelin asked if this CD is good enough to purchase. That's what I've said, it's their best live album... so far, at least.

You should see what they've said while promting the DVD about the show. It so happens that I subscribed to the QOL newsletter just before its release and you should read in what terms Queen was officially talking about it. I'm sorry I don't have the text on this PC, I'll send it to you as soon as I'll return at home.
