Why is it so bad to convert FLAC to MP3? And what is the best other format to convert it to?

because FLAC is lossless and MP3 is lossy. With Flac you get an exact copy of the original file, while you lose certain information with mp3.

from www.winamp.com (plug-in section)
it converts first in a WAV file, then you may convert it in a mp3 file with any ripper: MusicMatch for example, enough

I'm a recent convert to flac. I thought that mp3's were the mutts nuts, but flac is so much better.
Dont get me wrong, mp3 is great, if nothing else.
But get the same song or concert in flac and you will hear the difference. There's more body to it. It sounds so much better.
