I think reading does make you smarter...and it certainly broadens a person's knowledge. ;^p

Growing up, I hated reading, too. But then I started a wonderful thing called a "reading list." I will stop before you *really* see what a nerd I can be.

*edit* Glad you got the goodies, Dan! :^)

I can sympathise- last year we had to read "To Kill A Mockingbird" which, although a good book, was very difficult to understand when you are rushed through (and made to skip) several chapters that I believe are important. If I'd read it at my own pace, I think I would have understood it a lot better. I'm trying to re-read it now. Although it has good morals, I don't think I would have read it if we hadn't been "forced" to at school.

However, sometimes "required reading" can be good- last summer we were asked to read Jane Eyre and I found I really liked it. :)

Actually, Sir GH, Dan was right but owing to Breanna's illiteracy and missing punctuation, it's a little confusing. The statement SHOULD read (and I don't condone it in any way):-

"Ok, I'm sorry Janet for saying go f*ck yourself. What I meant to say was go fuck yourself. There. Happy now?"

I should be an English teacher.
