Listening to Brian and Roger's comments on GVH2, they clearly were a little surprised that FWBF didn't do better.

I like the verse very much, and find some similarities to WATC. However, I think the chorus is a bit to anonymous to make the song a major hit. What do you think?

It sounds slightly similar to We Are The Champions, but I think WATC is a better anthem. Like, after a sports game, what sounds better: 'Friends will be friends, right 'til the end' or 'No time for losers, 'cause we are the champions of the world'? And with We Will Rock You accompanying it, they were just the perfect anthems, whereas Friends Will Be Friends falls a little short.
Of course WATC and WWRY are more anthem-like, but I believe the main reason for that, is that the chorus is too anonymous.
Never liked it. Dunno exactly why - just not a big fan "everyone should be nice to each other and be friends" concept :-P
I like it. I think it is better than "We Are the Champions" which I've always thought was overrated.
We Are The Champions is not overrated because it is the biggest anthem ever. More so than We Will Rock You. Everybody knows We Are The Champions word for word. Friends Will Be Friends is good, some songs just don't sell loads, not many people buy the album, then the single which was also on the album.
I like FWBF but I never really saw it as anthem-ish.
Much gayer than WATC :-P As I understand it, this was to be their big tour anthem, hence the 'live' style video and single sleeve. But perhaps the fans were spending all their money to follow them on tour and couldn't afford to buy singles. :)
i reckon its a good anthem and completely different to champions in theme. champions is one of those team sport anthems wheras friends is one of those for nice memorable mos with ya mates at hand. awww! the centiment of it is just lovely. rock on john and freddie!
