Chris Tavare was a thug to my attention. Keeping in mind I wasn't born when he played but by fuck replay on cable tell a similar story.
heh, Swervin' Mervyn. What a character. Once billed as Merv Hill.
Steve Harmison..yeah. What a bowler. A 10 ball over at Lilac Hill against the ACB XI. I happened to be there and great God, I thought Courtney Walshs' 19 ball over was a menace. Big girl suffering from home sickness.
Flintoff only fires occasionally. I'm aware of his big hitting and his nippy bowling but to label him 'the new Botham' or 'Englands best all-rounder in 10 years' (well I think I made that last one up) is a bit of a burden for him to carry.
Michael Vaughan. He is a quality player. No doubt.
Ashley Giles is the flavour of the series (a tie with Strauss and Harmison). I think his highest accolade is having Tendulkar stumped in India for 90.
The English selectors always have a flavour of the series/month. Foster, Craig White, Solanki, Dawson, Crawley, Key, Clarke, Collingwood (ha!), Batty, Ali, Silverwood, Read. 16 players have been capped in the last 3 years and played 89 tests between them. Graham Thorpe has played 93 on his own. I love that guy. Best lefty to play for England for a long time.
Australia have capped 4 players in the same time. So take that. Mind you Symonds, Williams, Bracken and Love have all been crap..Love is the exception. And I like Bracken.
Butcher isn't even real. He's a made up character to impress the textbooks in years to come. I do value his 173* against Australia in 2001 but that's about all.
Anderson is alright. He's from Lancashire and I like Lancastrians. So there.
You failed to mention the best player in the English side (apart from Vaughan) and that is Trescothick! What a magnificent player.
Despite what the PwC ratings say Harmison will not be like this every series. Just like the Australians can't rely on Langer/Hayden/Ponting all the time or Sri Lanka can't rely on Muralitharan to take 7 wickets in an over.
P.S I've probably said things in this spiel that will be cut down and replied to with scincillating repartee but I've been happy to say what I think about English cricket. In the gurgler.

Oh, I'm sure it could be argued that facing a baseball @ 110 mph is equally as bad blah-di-blah.
I still think having a 6'8'' bowler (Reid, Garner or even the diminiutive 6'7'' Tony Greig) coming in at you off a 15 (Reid) or 13013010313139 (Garner) step run up is rather more daunting that have some one pitch a juicy full toss at you all the time.

I dunno whether you mean American football or the thing the rest of the world calls football, but I don't like either one.
FC BARCELONA!!!!!
They again have a very interesting team; I've been fan since Romario/Stoiczkow/Koeaman/Bakero etc. era... Johan Cruyff was the best football manager EVER!!!
