Any thoughts on the XP Service Pack 2 which has come out in the last couple weeks?
I didn't know about this until yesterday... I never had automatic updating on. I don't like the idea of MS doing shit in the background and downloading stuff without my input.
But I heard someone mention it so I went to the windows update site. It claims you can only get the update by using automatic and waiting. After a few hours of nothing, I found a stand alone file at download.com (260 MB) and installed it.
No major hassles for me so far. I had to redo a few settings but it seems cool, and so far the pop-up blocker is working as good or better than others I've tried. And the ability to (FINALLY) have Outlook only display text email might even get me to start using Outlook again :-P
After the update, I again turned automatic updating off and went back to the update site. Again I was told there was an error because automatic was off. I guess they're making a weak attempt at forcing people to use automatic. It won't last long, believe me.

Yeah, I was sort of disappointed.
Us xp pro users have to wait until the 25th to get our sp2.No big deal knowing Microsoft it will still be full of security holes.
