Becoming Queen

Forgive me if this has already been discussed but I was wondering:
Is there any merit to purchasing the "Becoming Queen" dvd?
It is unauthorized and they misspell Freddie's name on the front cover.
I was just wondering what was in it and if any music is included.

I have seen this in stores an wondered the same thing. Has anyone seen it?

I enjoyed it. There's no original Queen music, but some interview bits with them. Mostly interviews with other folks who were friends of them and stuff.

Interestingly, there are Mick Rock photos used and a mention of his site in the credits, as well as a gallery on the disc of the Burns Red Special and mentions of their site. As if they had the cooperation and even sponsorship of these folks.

Some of the (new, for this program) interview participants are:

Tim Staffell (1984/Smile)

There are lots of these dvd's going around, i bought one of U2 recently, quite fun really.
Aren't they from Chrome Dreams? Same company who make the Maximum.... cd's?

'Magic Moments' is from Chrome Dreams. It came out around the same time. As for that one, it's not put together as well (the off-topic background music is much more annoying) but I liked the interviewees better.

Becoming Queen is released by Passport Video. Despite the spelling flub on the cover, it's very well-made and worth the $10 or so that it sells for.

Should be noted that (as the name suggests) Becoming Queen focuses more on the early pre-Queen years. Over half of it takes place before the first album was recorded.

I've got both Becoming Queen and Magic Moments, and information-wise, both are good. Becoming Queen focuses mostly on Queen before Queen, whereas Magic Moments highlights their career. The biggest downside to Magic Moments is the horrible background music, though.

I liked Becoming Queen, too. It was good to see interviews with the Ibex guys giving their own personal stories from their days with Freddie. Yeah, it's ok for the small price tag.

I've just received both the Becoming Queen and the Magic Moments dvd's.
I haven't seen the MM dvd in total yet, started to skip through it.
But I did just watch the Becoming Queen dvd and I could not stop watching.
This is really a nice biography. People talking genuine about Queen (not a single word against them I believe... hehe) and has some nice footage.

So, Becoming Queen is worth getting, I must say.

It's very interesting to hear many interviews especially ones of Freddie's old friends, Ken Testi and Mike Bersin. Mike Bersin was one of the basic members of Ibex and Ken Testi was a sort of manager of Ibex and he was doing some things for Queen for a while before their record debut as his old alliance.
They are talking some episodes especially about Freddie.
Also Tim Staffell is talking various episodes.
It's pretty good for one who is interested in before and early Queen.

For an un-official biography / documentary 'Becoming Queen' is very good.

"Becoming Queen" hardly covers any aspects of the band's career, except their early years. However for those who are interested on knowing Queen from their beggining is a great treat. There are commentaries by people who knew the band members before hitting stardom, and overall it's very enjoyable.
