Okay, you're right, I didn't mean that.
But look how they were dressed at that time, it's really gothic-style. I didn't say they were, but what the heck, this is a stupid topic, the starter of this topic is a asshole. Queen were at that time pure heavy rock 'n' roll, not gothic. Only the clothes were gothic-style, not the music.
Goth only became a genre around the late 70's a spin off of Punk probably led by the brilliant Dave Vanian although the Damned were only ever considered slightly Goth. http://www.officialdamned.com/docs/bandmembers/dave/index.htm Vanian's influences were old horror movies and the music of the MC5, Stooges and Velvet Underground. This trend was later adapted by Bahaus, Sisters of Mercy and The Southern Death Cult etc. So in short Queen were pre goth and as a lot of people have pointed out far less one dimensional than most of their peers!
Queen thankfully were one band which it has been impossible to pigeon hole which is probably been the main reason for their longevity! Many have tried all have failed!!!
I think they had some links to goth. but queen is too optimistic as someone wrote, for being goth....
But if you want to try to see it like that ... is nice to see that they had a very goth look in the early days... and songs very obscure too, (but not deppresive at all)
White Queen and Son and daughter are very obscure to me...
ands is not coincidence that the Trent Reznor covers of queen sounds so good....

Well im seeing it through my own point of view because i like goth too :p and i know some queen fans that listen both too...
How about erm no?! I guess some would be forgiven for mistaking them as such for the cover of queen 2 but apart from some black hair and nails and occasional darker lyrics, not really.

Um why am I an "asshole" just for asking that?!? A friend asked me that when he saw my Queen II poster, and I hadn't thought about it before. I know there weren't bands labeled as goth back then, but I thought maybe some of the things Queen did were sort of a precursor to that, and wonder if some of the kids going to Queen concerts in 1974 would be into goth stuff today. I mean look at this picture:
Obviously Queen doesn't fit one genre...it just seemed to me that maybe they ventured into that territory for a bit, then got out. I'm not sure why some people seemed to be so offended...I don't like goth stuff much myself either but thought maybe this was just another of the dozen genres Queen influenced. *shrugs*
