What is the best Queen album?

It has Got be Queen II, it is amazing and it leaves me speachless though Queen (I), Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, The Miracle and Innuendo are brilliant.

Sorry I don't absolute favorite CD or DVD. To my ears they are masterpieces.

Agree. But News Of The World is the best album, regardless of taste. ; -))

Queen has a lot of great albums but I only refer to Queen II and ANATO as masterpieces.

Ooh, the first FIVE are their best, with Innuendo in 6th, but the bestest of all is of course Queen II - hands down.







SHA and ANATO have some of the individually best songs, but QII works best as a whole album. Unbeatable.







For me the only other albums ( I have heard) on a par with QII are Barcelona and Grace (by Jeff Buckley).

I totally agree with Wiley, Queen_On_Ice and ISTM that News of The World is the best album. When we start treading the taste ground, then there's this conflict between ANATO and Queen II and SHA. Fully agree. :op

I can't decide between SHA, Queen II and ANATO.  When I was a child ADATR was my favourite.  However NOTW has one of my favourite songs EVER 'My melancholy Blues'.

In fact that's such a hard question if my answer had any weight or importance I'd lose a tremendous amount of sleep over it.

"Best Queen Album" is almost as vague of a question as 'What's the best color in the world' ?

It's so subjective and it's one person's opinion over another.

What might be useful for this forum is to create a 'Queenzone' forum/poll (whatever) for this same question...

As far as mainstream success, I would guess it would be 'Opera'...however my personal favorite is 'Races' .

If I may add another thought...

I was listening the other day to the Flash Gordon soundtrack - and while it's not really a mainstream album, I really feel you should listen to it as you would an orchestral soundtrack.

There are some very interesting moments in there. And considering it was written in the early 80's and in a situation where the band was maybe slightly out of there element, it really is impressive. 

I think if it was recorded and marketed in the same light as something like Radiohead's 'Kid A' (which achived MASSIVE mainstream success) it would have been more widely accepted. 

I suppose it was the sign of the times. 

Anyway...for what it's worth.

NOTW is great, but the best?...I don't think so. The first five rule. NOTW JAZZ and the game ends the classic
Queen era, but Innuendo they somehow turned back the clock and is right in that mix.

Good list, but the game has to be ahead of the miracle.  Good for giving props to the first album, it rules. One of the better debuts in rock history. 

My top 3:

Queen II (by far the best album Queen made)
A Day At The Races
Innuendo
