newer bands influenced by queen

I spent the last few weeks compiling a list of bands I listen to or have heard of (mostly what everyone else would call "punk", "emo", "indie" "hardcore" or alternative") that have admitted (directly or indirectly) their infleucne of Queen on their music.


Atreyu - their lead guitar player has said many times that Brian May's playing was the reason he wanted to learn guitar

Asterisk* - covered Ogre battle on their full length (you have to be a queen fan to dover ogre battle)

Coheed And Cambria - list Queen as their "homies" (fav. bands) in the back of their newest album, their singer Claudio reccomended Queen II to a message board once, AND their singer also said he feel asleep to Queen every night while recording their new album (In Keeeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3)ALSO...on the hidden song of that album, at one point the lyrics go "in the words of Father To Son, my kingdom come" a tactic the band has admitted to in the past of putting other artists song names in their lyrics as a shout out of sorts

Circa Survive/Soasin - the singer Anthony Green(formerly of saosin, now circa survive) quoted in an interview that he was listening to "Queen, a lot of Queen lately"

Crooked Fingers - did an acoustic version of under pressure on a cover songs EP

Gatsby's American Dream - entire band said dream line up for a 4 slot show would be Beatles, Queen , Snoop Dogg, and Outkast

My Chemical Romance - cite influence of beginning of song "Headfirst For Halos" was Queen , also if you listen to the guitar harmonizing in their new single "I'm Not Okay" it sounded very Queen like to me

Say Anything - cited in an Interview that Queen was one of their major influences

Small Brown Bike/The Casket Lottery - did a split EP in which both bands colaborated on a very accurate rendition of Under Pressure

The Vandals - covered don't stop me now and released it as a single

The Blood Brothers - did a entertaining hardcore version of under pressure on the dynamite with a lser beam comp, also put on an extremely energetic live show

The Juliana Theory - the singer Brett Detar has said more than once and in more than one place that his major vocal/singing influence is Queen

well there you have it, I don't expect you to know of any of these bands, or even like them I just thought it was interesting the spectrum Queen influenced, some of the artists very heavily, also a trained Queen fan ear can pretty much tell some of theses bands listened to Queen without even needing to confirm it

Heh, I've never heard of most of these blokes but if they like Queen, it's alright with me.

I admit, I haven't heard of all of those bands, but it's amazing to see just how widespread Queen's influence was.

well, at least they have some good taste in music

... nor have I.

I've heard of Gatsby's American Dream...or at least I've read the Francis Scott Fitzgerald book, The Great Gatsby...So I really have no idea if I've heard of them or not. The others I've actually never heard of ever.

That's really interesting. I think the Darkness have also said their influences were Queen, or something. Also, I heard that Jack Black once said in an interview that he really likes News of the World, and he has his own band. And Vanilla Ice used the baseline of Under Pressure, so there's another connection.

I've heard of Coheed And Cambria. They are pretty good. 'Are you in, or are you out?' And my friend, Arianna, said to me one day at lunch that Fraz Ferdinand sounded like Freddie Mercury. I could have been dazed, but I'm pretty sure that's what she said.

what did Maroon 5 and Keane say about Queen Krizzy ? i'm really intrested to know !

Same here! Wow, I never knew that Maroon 5 was inspired by Queen, but it makes total sense, cause a lot of their songs remind me of Another One Bites The Dust for some reason. I saw them live a few weeks ago, with John Mayer. (my friend's a fan). They were actually really good!
