to start of with; I like the Darkness. these days, they are probably the best new rock band (or band even) around

i think that the BEST band of our days are the mars volta which really created a new music way, darkness should envy them, and for some reason i kinda think that mars volta are the 'new' queen

Don't believe the hype. I am a fan of The Darkness, but the only thing they have in common with Queen are the catsuits worn by Justin Hawkins.

i admire your post, finally someone that says that the darkness have nothing to do with queen
I don't know why everybody's so offended by The Darkness. Just because they were influenced by Queen doesn't mean they're ripping them off. They drew their influence from a lot of older rock bands; Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and yes, Queen. I've always thought it was great that they were fans of my favorite band; I think it shows that they have good music taste.
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.
no one is offended by the darkness, i don't understand why a lot of people compare them to queen which have nothing to do with the darkness and voted them to team up with queen in the weekly poll
Robert Plant is exceptionally good singer, one of the best voice in rock history. And it’s not only in vocal range (btw his vocal range today is really narrower comparing to Led Zeppelin era - but it’s the matter of age amongst other aspects), but he has fantastic music feeling and vocal dynamic when he sings.

And then: I’d say I like Darkness. I enjoy their music - it’s fresh, guitar oriented, fine. I don’t wanna say it’s something new, but who could find anything new in music today. And in Darkness music you can find they are influenced with AC/DC, The Cure, etc. etc. and - with Queen (some guitar solos on ’Permission to Land’ are almost obvious).

I agree Hawkins vocal is a little bit strange - you can like it or hate it - I think there’s nothing between. But after all I think Darkness music is closer to Queen (speaking about live performance) than LedZepp. Sorry but I can’t imagine Robert Plant singing Queen - it’s simply not his music style. And Robert performance on FM Tribute was not good (saying it diplomatically) and he wasn’t happy with it either I think.
But now it's time to be gone - forever...
I know I'm probably gonna make some enimies my saying this but.... I don't really like The Darkness either....I'm a hard core Queen fan and I don't find them too comparable...although it's cool that they were influenced by Queen...my cousin claims how she hates Queen but she loves The Darkness.....

I'd like to see hawkins yodle his way through cray little thing....
and I think plant could have sunger other queen tracks and delivered the goods - whereas hawkins hasn't got a range at all

I have nothing against the darkness and hawkins. I really enjoy them!!!

but to claim he can match robert plant is just stupid. wake up folks

ps; I've always wanted to hear plant do save me for some reason...
Darkness is closer to Queen than Zep. yes. - but what's that got to do with anything? :)
All I know is I heard Robert Plant sing Cwazy Little Thing Called Love and it was rubbish.

I dont see much of queen in darkness. only how hawkins dress, and his teeth looks very familier with freddies. I like darkness, i like the music, and i think its gd that a real rock band is so big. Now ppl grow up and think rock is crappy bands like limp bizkit, and busted. noiw young ppl can lern what rock is, and if they like darkness and hear aburt other greats band, like queen and the who from them, and they are gona about that to (more money to you brian). LOVE THE DARKNESS!

comparisons in music have always been rife....oasis to beatles, jet to ac/dc and the DANKNESS to queen. personally i think the DANKNESS are a poor-man's spinal tap...they epitomise everything crap about plagiarism - without the intended joke or the flattery

You see, that's the problem. Some see the joke part and think that's all they are. While others see a really decent rock band having fun. Unfortunately, these comparisons come around because of media or the equally bored. :)

But how can you compare The Darkness, a very new act, with a really well established band - full of history like Queen, etc.? First of all, it's not really fair and to be honest a little premature at this stage.

Time is needed to really see where things go for them. But like it always goes, you either love or hate them. Just like how things began for another band...

Peace,
Adam.

But you knew Spinal Tap were fictional... right?

I think the Darkness have some good tunes, but I think Justin needs to cut down on the falsetto. He does too much IMO. Otherwise, they're fun, but the second album will be interesting. Can they maintain that fun element or will it just get a little stale and boring? We shall see...
