But still, have a good fast :) (Or is it Yom Kippur when you have to fast? Or is it both? Why do you have to fast anyway? It doesn't seem like ta day of the year goes by when someone isn't fasting :$)

Why do they get off from school if the holiday begins at sundown? I'm sure you can miss school too, I doubt they do background checks.

Because it was yesterday's sundown...got it. Still, I guess anyone can take off, but why would you want to? I'd still go to school if I were Jewish. One day could make a big difference.
Our school's closed today for Rosh Hashanah. We've been back for three weeks and still haven't had a full week because of Labor Day, Rosh Hashanah, etc.

We don't get them, there are only about eight Jews and one half-Jew (me) in the entire city.
