Regardless of whether you believe in God or not, at times like these all we can do is be positive and hope for the best.
If praying and meditating also helps, that's good too.
At times like this, it's certainly easier if you have a religion.
That's really horrible, Dan - I hope she gets better. For her baby's sake as well as hers.

My friend is out of the hospital now.
Can't tell you how happy I feel that she's fine now, and she will finally be able to take care of her baby.
