who here likes it? and did you know there about to make a film on it i wonder whats its like
B
the film will probably be a steaming pile...
but only for one reason - the ONLY guy who could have helped them produce a worthy attempt at celluloiding the books (Douglas Adams) - is dead!

without him...it'll become a hollywood conversion with little resemblance to the original (bit like most vietnam movies)

btw - did anyone read "salmon of doubt" ? shame he didn't finish it, had the makings of a greta book

the dirk gently series were much better than hitchhiker stuff

I have the book and it is one of my favorites of all time, and they have already filmed it, although what I saw was a very low budget film, so I do not know if they are going to refilm it or what.

1. Any footage you've seen is probably from 1981 and was indeed on the cheap, although the BBC did their best at the time.

2. The new film is a) produced by Jay Roach, b) has a decent budget, and c) comes from a screenplay by Douglas Adams. The final draft was approved by his partner, and members of his family appear in it.

I just finished re-reading the Dirk Gently books. I have read hitchhikers but I can't think how a film could be as amusing as the books because most of the charm of them is in the descriptions etc.
Apparently Martin Freeman (Tim from the Office) is Arthur Dent.

I do not know who made the whole movie, but I saw the whole thing but it did not do the book justice.

I love the whole book series! Haven't got to reading Salmon of Doubt yet though.. I just bought the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in English, I've previously read them only in Finnish. I hope they'll make a decent film out of it, and they better make it as funny as the book is! Many times I've been laughing so hard I've had tears running out of my eyes.. =)

salmon would've made agreat final part to the DG novels, unfortunately it was never finished...

I pick up LDTTOTS and DGHDA whenever there's nothing i feel like reading in WHSmiths or Waterstones...

Tickqueener - love the "boston" sig, did you get hold of the "we found it in the trashcan" demos? they're brilliant, and apparently Tom Scholz wants em back

Not backwards ...related scene two or three books later

Oh, with Agrajag I presume. It's been a while since I read them.

Enjoying "Life, the Universe and Everything" on Radio 4 at the moment though. Although I have to say, he may be the original, but McGivern is by far the weakest Ford Prefect. Sod him, they should have got David Dixon back in (and yes, I know he was never on the radio originally...).
