Question to Greg Brooks

Hi Greg!

I have a question about the tapes Queen used beginning with the Works sessions and afterwards...

I know that Queen were using digital tapes starting during the Works sessions, and were using them right to the Miracle/Innuendo/post-Innuendo sessions.

How do these tapes work? What is it that keeps them from losing the digital information (this is assuming that the tapes are similar to 24-track analogue tapes, in terms of look and build).
Also, how do the tapes remember the fader mixes?

Lastly, also I THINK I may have information relating to the where-abouts of the missing mastertape for "Staying Power". Could you e-mail me so I can tell you in private?
My e-mail is [email protected]

Please write me soon, thanks!

Take care!

Hi,

Sorry, I am not Mr. Brooks, but maybe this link could answer the part of the digital recording questions:

http://www.alesis.com/support/faqs/adat_studio.html

I am not sure that Queen used exactly Adat, but I am quite sure that the automatisation tracks (if!)were recorded via SMPTE, just like the MIDI informations.

But I am quite sure they transfered all the original reels to hard disc for later remix (just like they done for the DVD-A remixes). I posted an article about it here on the forum somewhere about a week ago...
Special thanks to Arif Mardin who arranged and produced some hot and spacey horns on "Staying Power" ;-)
