Hey, I always thought it was all written by Freddie except for that last verse?

Lyrically yes, the music - besides the melody - must be Brian. More on that later
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.
Seb, if it's wouldn't be hard for you: can you tell me - is singing Roger back-vocal in 'The Great Pretender' or there is just Freddie's BV?
(I don't want to start new topic with just this one question)
Roger helped Freddie with the song. Dunno where I read that. Was some German article. Have to check my library...
Keep 'em mowing blades sharp!
Yeah, I know. He filmed in the video and probably sang BVs, but I'd like to know it for sure.
Found the article. It is from the German magazine "Metal Attack" from April 1991. It is a special edition about Queen's 20th anniversary. The following excerpt is about Roger's solo stuff in 1987:

"[...],doch alles, was er tatsächlich unternahm, war das Einsingen von Freddies 'Great Pretender'-Single."

in English it would be:

"[...] but all he [Roger] really did was singing for Freddies single 'Great Pretender'.

Yeah, I remember watching the Champions video and seeing two things from Brian. One, he says that he was writing stuff for Mother Love and then handing it to Freddie to sing. And two, prior to this part of the video he mentions the "wings of butterflies" line that he wrote and gave to Freddie in the song.

Peace,
Adam.

P.S. Seb, you have always claimed on this site how John has sang on this or that. I believe that's what's being referred to.
Yeah, I know, Adam. But I still don't know why it wasn't as usually contributed to all Queen members...
Can I through my tuppence worth in?

I thought that joint writing credits were a way of bringing them together and closing ranks when they realised Freddie was ill.

Once he was gone it mattered less, so they let the credit go to Mercury and May.

About Mother Love - I think something`s clear: the credit May/Mercury is for a reason. Also in some recent (1 or 2 months ago) comment in his soapbox Brian mentioned Mother Love was his fave collaboration with Freddie along with one verse of Show Must Go On (which surely is different from the bridge with the "butterflies" line). So if Brian wrote lyrics, Fred wrote music. But imo, they must have co-written both. It`s definitely not 100% either one of them anyway

About my site - I HAD mentioned that but I don`t anymore and even if I did, that was way off topic.

Well, how about 'You don't fool me', 'A Winter's Tale', 'It's A Beautiful Day', 'Let Me Live'? What's wrong with them then?
I haven't a fucking clue, love. I was just throwing my tuppence in.

Oh my God - stars were lucky to me today and Brian answered this question!

So after the edit of his reply answer is: it was just his wish!
