As if he knows sh** about these things!!

Technically, he shouldn't believe in computers, or any other kind of electronics. If he is a Christian fundamentalist, then he believes in a pre-scientific world.

But of course, these people can then make exceptions. How convenient.

That's really an overstatement, GH. Fundamentalists may think certain scientific discoveries are hooey, but not all. They won't believe in those that might contradict the Bible, but there are obviously many that are never referenced or discussed.

Also, Bush is an Evangelical and not a Fundamentalist. That's an important distinction to make.

Oh yes, we all know Bush is Amish.

I bet he was just getting fed up with all the 'liberal' European remarks in his guestbook or something. :)

Gawd I surely hope he won't get re-elected...

I realize it can go either way, but since they take things word for word, so I was just doing the same. For example, they literally believe in the words "all knowledge will come to an end" from Corinthians, and modern science is a form of knowledge. So conveniently, they are in favour of certain types of knowledge, such as scientific discoveries they themselves can benefit from. I'm fully aware that this is a bit far-fetched, but since when have fundamentalists been completely rational themselves? I was just using their style of belief against them.

Also, Bush is an Evangelical and not a Fundamentalist. That's an important distinction to make.

I don't think a merely evangelical Christian would go as far as preventing a country from supporting *new* stemcell research. Clearly he is a fundamentalist. Why else do you think he understands Islamic fundamentalists so perfectly well? Because he is one himself!

Fair point. Just remember, however, that fighting fire with fire doesn't necessarily work when it comes to ideology. You have to out smart them, not out yell them.

This I disagree with. Many evangelicals oppose embryonic stem cell research on the same grounds that they oppose abortion: since life begins at conception, this is a destruction of life.

This is not a fundamentalist issue, but really encompasses many Christian groups, from Evangelicals to Pentecostals to Fundamentalists.

I know many of them go as far as believing that contraception is wrong. So it doesn't matter what you use. Preventing the birth of a child while still having sex is just a "sin", because according to them you're just destroying God's plan to start a new life.

The reason why I think that conservatives are a joke is because they are very strong against abortion, but then they're the first ones to cut fundings to help young single mothers and poor families raise their kids.

There's nothing more fundamentalist than saying that God spoke to you, and justifying a war for religious reasons.

It's because they don't feel that the Govt should get involved. Alan Keyes, for instance, is strongly against abortion and would certainly call for the govt to cut funding for the poor. In his view, that should be dealt with by religious organizations and not by federal funds. It's a fairly common economic/social belief by conservatives.

Actually, I would say that having God speak to you is more of a Christian trait in general. Fundamentalists aren't the only folks out there with a direct line to God.

Yours is always the fairer mind, Zeni. :) You're definitely one of the most honest and neutral posters on this board, if not, the most.

About 18% in Canada prefer Bush. Many other countries are pretty similar to this.
