Early Queen vs Late Queen

I was just wondering, whether Queen fans generally prefer early Queen or late Queen. i mean, obviously there are songs from both periods that are really superb. But generally, they changed drastically during the late 80s. I've always preferred the earlier stuff as it's far more raw. Also, does anyone know why Roger and Brian stopped having their own solo songs? All the early albums have at least one song by each of them, which, although Freddie's voive was far superior, was quite refreshing!

I guess they wanted their songs to be singles, so they "had to" let Freddie sing them. Note that none of Roger`s songs were singles before Calling All Girls.

definetely early, i'd say - they were cuter then :P
i guess the bri and roger not singing is a merely economic decision...

I might have missed your meaning, but if not, wasn't I'm In Love with My Car a Single? I remember having the 45.. I mean 7" for you non Americans..

I love both, and great material came out of both periods, but I'd have to go with early Queen. Some of their best albums were from that time, not to mention the fact that there were more of them in the 70's than in the later period.

I was attracked to Roger in the 70's, but in the early 80's. I love both periods. They did good songs in early and late times.

I definately have a soft spot for early Queen because i was around when they came out and that's what got me. However, I love it all. :)

Well in the '70s they where very raw indead, wich I like.
Brian sang some songs Roger asswell.
And I got three video bootlges from the '70's, their shows where very good, but I think not as good as their '80's shows. cause looking at Hyde Park and comparing it to Wembley or Milton Keynes, I can see they all improved very mutch. and Freddie had mutch more charisma, look at the Rainbow '74, Fred sang very very good, but things like "We have missed you all", "I got the from the devil himself, they don't believe me" where not as powerfull as "Their talking from here (pointing to his ass". i think '80's cause they where more skilled.

Early Queen (up to an maybe even including The Game), is far superior to later Queen. Not that there aren't any great songs later on - there are many, but overall, the earlier stuff is heaps better.

Yes I`m In Love with My Car was B-Side, also `39. But those weren`t the (main) side of the single (so they didn`t record video for them etc). Long Away was single in the States, but it was only an experiment.

The very best of queen are the extremes

Extreme early (<1975) and Extreme late (>1990)

can't compare, they are too different so...i don't like the one better than the other.

I love the middle part. Imagine an apple. Not the skin, nor the core, but the flesh. That's what I like. Early Queen, well at least for me, was experimental. 80-90's Queen waned a bit popularity-wise. Lost North America, gained S. America. But in the middle part of their colorful lives, they had the world in the palm of their hands.
