Barcelona at Barcelona '92

I read somewhere that Caballé sang the Barcelona song at Barcelona '92 with man who I don't remember his name.
Does anybody know who this guy was? and does anybody have this version of the song?

I want to get this straight: Montserrat Caballé DID NOT perform the song Barcelona on the Official Barcelona Games Ceremony. That is bullshit! I know that the FM SOLO COLLECTION book states that, but it is just another (big) error.

It seems to me that much of what is written in that text was not appropriately researched. ...And there is much data in it that we cannot verify.

Nevermind, I guess that Greg Brooks mistook Freddie and Montsy song for Barcelona Aria, an overture specifically arranged for the event featuring sections of some of the most famous operas. That was indeed performed live by Caballé, José Carreras and Placido Domingo in 1992.

By the way, the whole performance was released on CD (RCA Red Seal 09026 61204 2) the same year and Barcelona Aria was issued as as single (09026 61383 2).

This must be a surprise to the relative new Queen/FM fans, but the fact is that the Barcelona '92 anthem was 'Amigos para siempre' (Forever Friends) performed by Caballé and Carreras, not Barcelona.

Montse DID perfom the song Barcelona in the Lluís Company's stadium, with Freddie on the big screen. I saw it, when I was a child.

Yes, Montsy did sing it for sure and Freddie was shown in the screen. I remember it clearly. Actually I was a bit surprised as it was performed there. I knew it was not the official song of the games so I wasn't expecting it.
Anyways, I think she mimed her part though.

I remember seing Barcelona on TV too, but Montserrat did not perform the song live - I insist. She performed live the songs with the tenors, though.

...And if you were referring to Brian May and Roger Taylor 1988 olympic themes, they were for the Thames TV coverage of the event, not for the Olympics itself. (Yes, I am opening the umbrella before it rains!)

They claim that Montsy didn't do Barcelona in '92 (untrue) for the Olympics, and in '88 Brian and Meat Loaf recorded 'Time For Heroes' as a potential Olympics Theme, but it wasn't chosen.

It was for Paralympic Games, not for Olympic.

I'm not sure but if you'd watch video Freddie/Montsy performance of 'Barcelona' at 1988 you'll see that when song started everyone of audience stood up like if it was a national anthem. So I think actullay it was chosen as an official song... IMO

I also think it was chosen back in that time. Perhaps it was later discarded for obvious reasons.

Anyway, the GH3 booklet states that Barcelona went 2nd in the charts in '92 and Montsy sang it at the Olympic Games opening ceremony. Very strange indeed...
