News of the World

I love News of the World, so many put albums like Sheer Heart Attack and stuff before it but besides WWRY/Champions it had so many wonderful songs, It's late is personally one of my all time favourites, All dead, All dead is such a beautiful song, and Spread your Wings is chilling how beautiful. There is a bit of nonsense in there (Sheer Heart, Fight from the, Sleeping) but even with Get down, make love the rock part is cool, and Who needs you a wonderful songs. And lets not forget My Melancholy Blues, which is my favorite song ever! I think this Album deserves WAY more credit!

The rest is great. Can't understand why ppl don't like "Get Down Make Love" so much- there are much worse Queen tracks out there...

i think some queen songs have parallels to some beatles songs - and it's usually THESE queen songs that are least liked - possibly beacuse they don't sound too original

if you remove the "indulgent" middle of GDML
the rest of the mood and feel of the song is similar to Come Together

it's not funky at all!!! it's somewhere between
blues and electro-rock (a la kraftwerk)

Now where is the funk in GDML? I can't seem to gyrate my hips to the beat!

This along w/ The Game were the first two Queen recordes I got. They were for my 13th B-day. So these two will always have a special place in my heart. This is what got the fire's burning that haven't begun to die out after 23 years. And for the record, being a huge Sinatra fan as well, I would have loved to hear Frank sing My Meloncholy Blues. It was right up his alley. He referred to this style song as Saloon Songs.

This was the second legitimate Queen album I ever got in April of 1992. This is what I wrote from another review source. The album opens with the one-two punch of the #4 charting We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. The former was written by guitarist Brian May and is known for its stomp-stomp-clap beat and rally cry. The latter was frontman Freddie Mercury's victory cry which has become a victory song. Next, is drummer Roger Taylor's punk-sounding Sheer Heart Attack. The song was as punk as Queen ever got and Roger plays drums, bass and rhythm guitar on this track. Brian's All Dead, All Dead is a soft beautiful ballad sung by Brian with Freddie on backing vocals. Bass player John Deacon's Spread Your Wings follows and is a mellow hard rocker about one not giving up on his dreams. Fight From The Inside is another heavy rocker sung and written by Roger(whom also played guitar and bass on the track and did all the vocals on this track). The lyrically dirty Get Down Make Love kicks off the second half and is one of the few blatant sexual anthems that Freddie wrote with raunchy guitar playing by Brian. Brian steps out in front on Sleeping On The Sidewalk which is a bluesy shuffle track with some great guitar work and was recorded without overdubs(save Brian's harmony vocals). John's Who Needs You is another great track with Freddie's elegant vocals and featuring Brian and John on acoustic guitars. Brian's It's Late is almost in the same vein as some of the epics they wrote in the past, but alot heavier and not strange. The ending is great as Roger goes into this insane Bonham/Peart like drumming, if not better. It was released as a heavily edited single in the US and flopped but the song kicks ass. The lyrically depressing but superb My Melancholy Blues is an all-out jazz song featuring Freddie's sorrowful vocals which is a great song for those whom have had either broken hearts or bad days. This album peaked at #3 in the US and sold over 4 million in the US alone to date because of the songs and not the personalities in the band. This album is highly recommended!

NOTW is the first Queen album I ever heard!

It's actually an interesting story: I was walking my dog one day when I saw a CD lying on the side of the road. I picked it up and saw that it was NOTW. At that time I really hadn't heard that much of Queen, but I picked up the CD and listened to it to find out if there was a reason it was lying on the side of the road. I still don't know why anyone would have thrown it out, but their loss is my gain!

It's still one of my faveorite albums (plus it has sentimental value, lol).

news is a great album, how can anyone complain of that album. After the first five albums news of the world is problably their best.

I have to say, NOTW is my favourite album. It has his very own sound I think. I love "It's Late", especially the fast part in the middle. And "My Melancholy Blues" following, such a nice piece of work by Freddie.
