He's actually a crap writer. This is his only good book. He got a really good plot storyline thingy and made it a fantastic book, but his other books are shit.
No crap writer could ever be that entertaining. Just because one doesn't write in the pompous prose popular with Victorian-era authors doesn't mean he can't write.
