I think the piano on Millionaire Waltz is really good, especially the intro with Johns' bass line following along. Good Stuff.
The MOTP middle section might be Fred (Mercury) because Mandel is apparently the finale, not the bridge. But maybe he took it from there until the finale, it`s possible.
Regarding Spread Your Wings and the "he must have played it at least once" line:
a) John could have written it in the guitar
b) John could have written down the chords and showed them to Freddie
c) Perhaps John could do the basic chords in the piano, as much as he could do the drum-pattern, but as a professional he left Fred and Roger to record them

My favorite is on Bohemian Rhapsody during Brian's
guitar solo. Especially when they performed this live at Wembley Stadium. The sound is very dramatic.

Since Freddie was so brilliant on piano, then, can anybody tell me why the finale of MOTP was played by Fred Mandel instead of Freddie?
I'm pretty sure Spread Your Wings was Freddie. Looking at John's hands in the video where he is "playing" the piano, it's clear he doesn't really know what he's doing.
Now that doesn't make sense. If he composed it, he must've played it at least once.
How did you come to that conclusion?

I would have to say, Don't Stop me Now and Bohemian Rhapsody. (especially when they perform Bo Rhap at the bowl)
Freddie is excellent in "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Seaside Rendesvous", "don't stop me now," (especially live), and "You Take My Breath Away"(although the song is quite simple,really)
However, Brian was quite brilliant on the Piano as well. He does wonderful in "Save Me" and "All Dead All Dead".

Brian`s stuff isn`t particularly challenging. The way he performed it is great though. Those songs kind of had a natura feeling with him at the piano, in the same way John had a great talent for rhythm guitar (and Roger too, in a different style).
As for Best Friend, it isn`t anything special. It doesn`t mean it`s bad, it`s just what the song needs. And John played it simple, as it was required.

rendezvous: Freddie recorded some impressive piano parts, but obviously Fred Mandel is a hell of a lot better so they let him record the MOTP outro. I've been playing piano quite seriously for 16 years and I still probably couldn't play the MOTP part without a lot of practise. There again, I might just be f*cking awful...
I wouldn`t say Mandel was absolutely better pianist than Mercury, but he definitely knew his way better in the jazz & blues area (e.g. Living On My Own).
"The March of the Black Queen" gets my vote. Actually, as best QUEEN song - period.
