I think the best list I've seen posted here recently was for the top 20 singers ever, and Eminem was about #15. Yes, Eminem is a better singer than Aretha Franklin, according to them. And it was some major magazine....

Yeah, there is no way more people look up to Joe Strummer than to Freddie, or Robert Plant. And where the fuck is Page?

Q are not as bad as Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone made Brian May #39(ironic) for guitarist and David Gilmour #81 that is SACRILEGE! Rolling Stone picked Jack White and Kurt No-Brain Cobain over these legends. Sorry but when Nirvana broke, I was slowly getting into Queen then on the day Freddie passed I played the Greatest Hits album almost every day to the point the tape died!

im not defending freddie; i say what i want, and you can agree or disagree.
you think this list is builded by opinions, ok, my post is also builded by my opinion, so learn to accept it.
And im defending all the deccent artist on this list: freddie, bono, lennon, jagger, presley, these people are legends, and they cant compare whit people like 2pac or eminem

Why should anyone learn to accept your opinion, as long as you act as if your views on music were more valuable than those of the poll-voters ? It's you who can't accept that lists like these are little more than a pure matter of taste. Instead, you're acting as if putting certain artists on that list was morally wrong. Where are these rules which categorally tell everyone whether one artist is better than another ? Did you set them up ?

Lists are made based on OPINIONS people! There's no point getting riled up because it's all trivial. That does sort of bum me out that Freddie's so low, but as someone mentioned, it's written by people who can't remember anything past 1990.

American VH1, for example, had a list, 100 Greatest Rock Guitarists - Brian wasn't even on there. 100 Greatest Album Covers - Not one Queen album. 100 Most Shocking Moments in RnR - Freddie's death made it to 77.

We know in our hearts where Queen and Freddie stand. Others don't. All we have to do is just smile and nod.

Perhaps they based it partly on record sales..?
I never trust polls because they aren't really based on popular opinion, just what sells. And the people who started the poll originally -- too much partiality. Next thing you know, they'll say Lenny Kravitz is better than Jimi Hendrix! *snicker*

At least Robbie Williams didn't get mentioned so it has some credibility.

Nearly all the people mentioned there justify there being there, I'm just not sure on the order of rankings though.

The only person there that really doesn't deserve to be there is Bono. God, if I wanted to listen to Irish music I'll listen to the Dubliners, and not U2's bland run of the mill rubbish.

i firmly believe that someone has to be around 10 years until they're put on a list to show that they have staying power. although, while I am not a fan of rap, it seems like he does what he does well

What I always find amusing is how the same magazines/TV shows redo their same lists every few years, and each time they're totally different.

Pink Floyd's Dark Side was #51 on Greatest Rock Albums and #4 on Greatest Covers. VH1 America said Nirvana's Nevermind cover was better than the Dark Side cover, sacrilege. Pink Floyd and Queen despite selling many records are underappreciated as opposed to crap like Britney!
