Excellent thread - NOTWMEDDLE, could you add sales figures in numbers for every album ? Would be great ! What's your source ?

For me as a german I also think they must have been quite big in the US from '75-'80, as we all know the names of the arenas they've played from several concertographies over the years. Selling out Madison Square Garden and the L.A. Forum up to three consecutive nights seems quite impressive.

I dunno why, but there's a fascination about a band "making it" in the US, and Queen's waning fame has been an often discussed issue amongst Fans for years now.

For me as well, since we had an exchange student from the US in our class way back in the early '90s, when I was still in school. I asked her about her favourite music. She said smth like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and I mentioned Queen... she had never heard of that band. I mentioned some of the biggest hits, CLTCL, AOBTD, BoRhap... she did not know until "Champions"... since then I started trying to find out everything about their fading popularity in the states.

It's kinda fascinating to analyse - in a masochistic kind of way... ;-)
