I'm just being realistic. Queen haven't been much of a major force in the US in the past 20 years, outside of a few songs. But if they want to prove me wrong, then of course I'd be very happy!

Personally i have to agree with what GH has been saying here....i seriosuly doubt they would bother coming over Stateside.
Brian's last tour was a total failure in his eyes...and it left scars that i'm sure have not healed. He was happy and pleased in the fact that during it he was reminded of the presence of many great friends here (the Fans) but the way the Tour was handled left him and his band at that time very downhearted in the end. This is primarily why he did not bother returning to follow up the BTTL tours with a Another World set of gigs. He did'nt bother as the album was'nt even released over here...or was it??!! Hollywood Records does a ***** job of promoting Queen here and i think THAT alone is the main reason for the lackluster vibe as far as the mainstream community goes.
This is'nt about Queen failing here, it's about it's promotion failing. Shoot, the fabled Master Tapes were stolen here even!! Damn!! Hollywood Records STINKS and does ziltch to get the word out here. EMI has never had this problem so this is why Queen has ALWAYS been hot in Europe. If EMI had some of it's production magic imported here and given the chance to take over the chairs at Hollywood, you can be sure that Queen would be kings here yet again! Capitol Records did'nt do a heck of a lot either...exspecially after the "Ga GA" scandal broke. Also too, they were terrified to be involved in promoting a "gay" band at that point in time (homo-phobia USA in the mis 80's) so they did'nt want to really drum up any support for Queen. I think they were maore interested in hiding them and keeping them musically "silenced" lest Capitol be branded as disgraceful and a threat to the youth of America by promoting a "gay band" like Queen!!! It makes one ANGRY when you sit sown and think of all the **** politics that go on in the music business. It pisses me off to no end that CRAP bands and talentless HACKS like Britney and numerous rap outfits can be hailed as taleted stars and the REAL talent is left to ROT!!
I had better stop...i'm turning into a raving maniac....sorry.....
I needed to vent i guess!!
I'd LOVE to see "Queen-just2" tour here...but my heart tells me that it is folly to hope for such. I wish i could be more positive about it...but i just have this terrible feeling that it won't happen.
But then again....i think of the fantastic Vegas Aftershow Gig and then i feel better knowing that hey, it COULD happen.....but my feelings right now is the same as GH: not by a longshot will that show ever hit Stateside Shores.

Excellent post, Deacon's 1st. You're certainly making a lot of sense there.
Yes, Queen are somewhat popular in the US and Canada again... but we must remember, that's Queen with Freddie. In all hopes of being realistic, how many people in the US know the names Brian May and Roger Taylor, in comparison to those who know the name Freddie Mercury? To most people, Freddie was Queen.
In terms of the mainstream audience, Brian and Roger are loved in Europe and beyond, but not here. We have to face it. Why play the Beacon for one night when they can sell out the Ahoy in Rotterdam for five?

GH: Are you considering Canada as a colony of the USA, or will Queen tour Canada and ignore the USA?
The Real Wizard · Member since
No, Mr smartass, I mean Canada and the US.

Thanks for the nice nod to my previous post Sir GH....glad i'm not the only one that sees what really happened.
I agree GH, "Queen 2-only" would have a slim chance of ever selling out any venue here Stateside. Sorry folks, but it's reality here rearing it's ugly head again. They will go where the REAL VISABLE support is..and the pound signs/ dollar signs too as that never hurts in the long run. The only ones hurt by all of this are the US and Canadian fans. We get the short end of the stick (yet again) but you know, we can't all bitch and moan.....after all we DID get WWRY in Las Vegas and i for one NEVER thought THAT would happen AT ALL!! I was STUNNED to realize that it WAS going to happen here in the US....really. Now last i heard, Canada is supposted to be getting it's own version of WWRY..yes? So at least we are'nt TOTALLY forgotten...but if you lived here on the "Forsaken Continent" (as i sometimes find myself calling it in a Queen-less sense!) you can feel right differently about some things sometime.
I would love to see the "Queen-less" Tour hit here and storm the States. Yes, i would. Man, WOULD I! I think in real terms the ONLY way that could happen is for these things to happen:
One HELL of a promotional push from Hollywood Records...BIG TIME. No promotion, no sales, no success. This was the downfall of Brian's solo tour(s) here....so many fans totally MISSED OUT as they NEVER EVEN KNEW their was such a show going on right down the street from them!! INSANE and INEXCUSABLE from a promotion standpoint.
"Queen" play only a select few locations...places guarenteed to pack em' in and create a serious pre-showday buzz. This is a important, often overlooked part of getting word out about a gig. Have the boys play the large theatre-style houses in New York, Detriot/Chicago, LA, and of course Boston. Boston ALONE would cause a serious sensation as it has always been the one city that has had incredibly high regards to Queen since the very beginning. Brian himself has noted this several times in various interviews, etc. It's true: Boston broke for Queen FIRST way back in 1973 when many rock stations here were playing KYA a LOT when no one else had a clue! To this day, Queen is HUGE in Boston. New York too....and the Midwest is a absolute must as well. There is a huge fan contigency out there in the Ohio/Michigan/etc. area. It boggles the mind....
and the last thing: Hollywood finally decides to issue Brian and Roger's latest solo albums. It does'nt make any sense whatsoever that these albums were released just about everywhere else in the world but NOT in the USA or Canada (or were they in the White North? geez, my mind is a blank at the moment) These should be issued before the guys Tour here to drum up interest and get people pumped. This would also be a excellent and EASY way to plug the upcoming Tour by releasing "Product" to coinside with the shows ( kind of like what Hollywood did with the WWRY Edition of Greatest Hits). It's high time these two excellent albums were issued as they are both stunning and far superior to the previous solo efforts before them.
Okay, so that's how i see it...but as you can probably see the chances of the above happening are pretty next to nil....so (sigh) we are back at square one again!
Can you see now how fustrating it can be to live here on the "Forsaken Continent"?
Pretty, pretty please???????? I am prepared to grovel.

would Queen consider festival or double-bill gigs? For example, would a ZZ Top/Queen double bill sell enough tickets?
Deacons 1st Choice · Member since
I seriously doubt "Queen" would put themselves in that position. I think it would be a big ego-crusher to Brian and Roger. I don't see that happening.
There are plenty of theatre/outdoor venues they could play here Stateside with no problem at all...if Brian was able to do it on his own with absolutely no promotion whatsoever in 93', they certainly "Queen" can do it this time around!

oo i hope that they come to the US...i kno it'll sound different w/o Freddie but its somn...i think that they'll come
Deacons 1st Choice · Member since
I hope so too...as i was honored with a sneak peek of sorts this past autumn in Las Vegas and i'm telling you now: They WILL rock!!
Brian and Roger play INCREDIBLY together...at least that is what i thought when i saw them. They will put on one Hell of a great show...we will all just have to put up with the Paul Rogers stuff during the lulls in the concert, but hey, it could be worse!
Trust me gang, this show will be fantastic.
Now, if we can just convince them to bring it HERE Stateside...but again, i don't really see that happening at all.

Deacons 1st Choice, When you say Brian and Roger's latest albums should be released, I can tell you for a fact that 'Another World' WAS released here in the US (with the usual crap promotion intact). It's actually quite easy to get in my area. :D
Deacons 1st Choice · Member since
It WAS??
Well thanks for clueing me in Dan...i had no clue whatsoever thanks to Hollywoods' usual lackluster promotion.
This is good then...i'm GLAD it was issued here. Maybe someday, we can get Roger's stuff released here too...but i'm not holding my breath.
