The thing I hate about America is how easily talentless popstars can find success. Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton all have recording contracts, even though none of them possess any musical talent whatsoever. It's starting to be about who can buy themselves a record deal rather than who's actually deserves one.
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.
Both countries have their hits and misses.

Obviously, Great Britain has lived up to the "great" in their name by producing the bulk of the better music artists.

I'd say the British are better.

However, take into considerationt who they were influenced by;

The Beatles took leads from Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley.

Queen took cues from Little Richard and Aretha Franklin, among other various aspects of the culture.

Led Zeppelin loved the American blues

The Rolling Stones derived off of American R&B funk and swagger.

Eric Clapton highly praises Robert Johnson.

And so on. See what I mean?

And many of the artists America has produced take cues from our British friends.

Jimi Hendrix practically called the UK home. Guns N' Roses worshipped Zep and Queen. Most any rock or pop band over here notes British influences like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, etc...

I would say America produces a lot more shit then Britain does.

But take into consideration teeny boppers, hillbillies, extremist right-wing conservatives, idiots etc...

Eliminate them and you have people with the same type of music tastes as the British do.

Great post, QueenZeppelin.
I don't like the Stones, or Zep, Sex Pistols,or any so called legendary rock pre-70's, i think Nirvana are heavily overrated but i love some of their songs and i luv Robbie and Queen and Muse and woteva! I love a lot of American bands, i'm even a fan of the band Live! It's MY opinion, so everybody should have their own opinions on who his the greatest in their own world and music collection and not some asshole critic of a mediocre magazine as NME or Q or fucking Rolling Stone of course or these stupid top this top that list that are thrown almost every week at us. What's the use of a music review anyway?? It's the opinion of 1 man/woman, ridiculous, i buy these magazines for the nice pics and interviews.

ps. don't put Robbie in the same sentence as Britney and Justin, Robbie writes his OWN music and he's fucking brilliant at it! He has proven himself over the years so people who say he's a teeny idol is a fucking retard he's an artist!
We love you Mandy!
Music today as a whole sucks. To be big in the industry doesn't even require real talent anymore. Just make sure you have an older sibling, or relative in general, and ride their coat tails to the top. It used to be, you could look way worse than Mick Jagger and STILL get a strong fan base and groupies because you rocked. Now, you have to look good and make some dumbass publicity stunt (when you're an older music icon, you do a sexual stunt i.e. Janet's "costume malfunction" or Britney and Madonna's kiss) to get noticed. There isn't even a new sound! You just do the same boring crap the first guy was doing and you're a success! And even if they do make a really good, catchy song, it's going to be played and worn out. But, because they're idiots, they're going to keep using that same pattern on every CD to come. THAT'S why Queen rocked is because they did things on their own terms and experimented and tried new sounds. America is pretty much told what to like nowadays. Queen is too old for my age group and they're not trying to be modern (yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!). And this makes me kind of happy that Queen aren't as big anymore. I'd rather them be considered geniuses of the classic rock era than try to be modern. The last thing anyone from the UK or USA needs is to see Queen try to make it in today's "music."

WE didn't put Robbie Williams in the hall of fame. All the women who fancy him put him there. It's not 'coz of his music, it's how he looks.

AND if you think, most of the greatest music artists are from England. Queen, Bowie, Zeppeiln, Beatles, Stones, Elton, The Who and more. America gave us The Beach Boys, Guns 'N' Roses (exept our Slash) and Blondie. They are the only U.S bands who I really think are brilliant.

And nowadays most of the best are from the U.K. The Darkness, Franz Ferdinand etc.

Cool! I didn't know that! Always nice to learn something new. :)

Btw, no argument about The Who ... But Elvis and The Rolling Stones will have to stand in the shadow of Queen. Elvis didn't write songs and didn't even know how to play the guitar. The same thing goes for The Rolling Stones with that Keith Richards...

I hate it when people bitch about whose country is worse or better..how about this....every country sucks in their own special way....but, England and America aren't bad either... so let's leave it at this...today..the music from America and England both suck...pop is crappier than it has ever been...but what I've noticed is that in England, talentless boy and girl groups still sell Ex)Girls Aloud and Blue..in America, that fad is over...that crap wouldn't make money now..little kiddies are now into Avril and Good Charlotte...but I have hope...but America produces crappy gangster rap with an infectious beat..which makes people like me dance to it and not pay attention to the lyrics which most likely have to deal with ho's and pimps droppin' it like it's hott..but it's hilarious how a lot these rappers talk about BedStuy and their old neighborhood...funny because it's really damn close to where I live...but, it's even more hilarious to see a person like Dizee Riscal become popular in England...I guess that's as close to making rap England can get...that guy couldn't make it in America even though they ran his video a few times on MTV2.It didn't work because rapping with a British accent doesn't sound right...and here, it's taken as a joke....I only have hope in a few bands and people....but, I guess that's better than nothing in this monotonous pile of crap we call music...

I agree w/ QueenZeppelin. We wouldn't have Rock & Roll if the Americans hadn't began the Jazz & Blues movement, you can't argue w/ that.

I can sum up crappy American music in two words,
Boy Bands.
In my opinion, 'nuff said.

This is a dumb comparsion, first off, Music nowadays are not the same as back in the 70's and 80's when music WAS MUSIC! Now, like someone said in a past reply said America is nothing but boy bands/girl bands, that look good, no music, no talent, lip synching, and I'm sure it's the same over the big pond! Music will never be the same as back then, I seen TONS of concerts and my favorite was when Queen played in 1980 in Cleveland, and the '82 Hot Space tour, which the Cleveland press said Billy Squier (who i liked) would steal the show, but in the press, the next day, they praised Queen for stealing the show! And really kept the fans from leaving after the Billy Squier set...... Rolling Stone magazine hated Queen, which i NEVER read it no more cuz of that, but they jump on the bandwagon with one hit wonders and stupid overrated bands in the states, and i'm sure in England as usual!
Music will never be the same ANYWHERE with all the techical stuff set up in the studios, and who no's lip syncing at concerts (as Elton John said).... Music was music back then and will never be compared to todays music, so why the bother to compare! Not worth the effort...cuz it would never be the same.........
Van Halen w/o David Lee Roth is'nt the same
Rolling Stones w/o Bill Wyman not the same
Lynard Skynard not the same
Pink FLoyd w/o Roger Waters/Syd Barrett, no...
etc, etc...

btw even after that, If Roger and Brian w/Paul Rodgers and hopefully John, comes to the state I would go.....just to get a opporunity, but wishful thinking, meet either one of them........
and the Las Vegas WWRY Muscial is out of site....

Sure it's not the same and will never be without Freddie or John, but yesterday is history, today is today and tomorrow is unknown........

Everyone have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! and hope all your dreams come true for the New year!

Hey man, I'm an American through and through and I hate it when people on this board rag on the country. But it also pisses me off when arrogant Americans rag on other countries. It's people like you that give the rest of us a bad name
and dont eff with Robbie Williams. The guy's amazing.
dude, you really dont know what you're talking about. Can you please tell me what country The Who came from? I dont believe roger daltrey had a texan accent
Just keep to yourself next time and stop the hate. This is a Queen board. not a politics board!
ANYWAYS!
Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your holidays are fun and safe
