Maybe he wasn't available. Maybe they'd never met, and so it felt funny to ask. I don't really care. I think he beats most of the people on the FM Tribute concert anyway.
And by the way, he's not "replacing" Freddie.

No they aren't.
Queen + Paul Rodgers is what they call themselves. I really marvel at the way people try to justify their snide remarks.

Paul is the best. Listen to finest Paul performances -- wild fire woman, sweet lil' sister, simple man, I'll be creepin'...

of course they are; Freddie fronted Queen, and now Paul is fronting Queen. It's rubbish to say he isn't.
You must say that he isn't a member of Queen, THAT makes sense, but he is replacing Freddie at this tour; not immitating, not taking his place as a member, but he replaces Fred is the frontman.

Give the guy a chance. He's not replacing anyone, Freddie was Freddie and Paul is Paul. Everybody knows that Freddie was unique so trying to be like Freddie makes no sense.
Paul knows what he's up to. I don't know him, but he seems OK and I'm sure he'll try to make the very best of it. I hope the tour will work out, and maybe Roger and Brian will even get together to record some new songs after the tour, with Paul.
