I actually preferred the movie to the broadway show...I just saw the show in September...thought it was cool when the chandelier fell, but I preferred to see Sarah Brightman play Christine...nothing beats the orginial cast...but, the movie is awesome...

I just got the soundtrack yesterday and it is BRILLIANT. If you get the double-CD setit will have words on it as well. I don't know if you get that with just the one-disc soundtrack.

Anyway... it's great and you should all buy it.

The two cd soundtrack is wonderful - I love all the incidental music! I love what Andrew Lloyd Webber did once he finally got a full orchestra to play around with! I just thought it was incredible that Emmy Rossum made her opera debut (I heard it was at the Met, but I'm not positive there...) at age six - that's just mind-boggling! Still, it's very nice that the cast was so capable when it came to singing their parts...except for Minnie Driver, everybody sang, right?

Ja ne!

Minnie Driver didn't sing as Carlotta, but she did sing one song- "Learn To Be Lonely." I am only judging on that one song, but I think that she has a good voice.

Otherwise, I believe that they all sang their own parts.

My only question is, if they got Gerard Butler to sing his part, why didn't Minnie Driver? Unless they had already planned to have Margaret Preece sing it...

For those of you who have seen it, what are your favorite quotes? I have so many, it is hard to pick just one line or stanza or phrase, but it would probably have to be when the Phantom says, "DA** YOU! YOU LITTLE PRYING PANDORA! YOU LITTLE LYING DELILAH!"

I think that's right, but if not, then let me know, please.

^_^ I liked the movie. And Gerard Butler is totally hot w/the mask. And I think he has a wonderfully unique voice!

Yeah, I enjoyed the movie. I bought the soundtrack, too.

Ooh, Gerard Butler is so good looking! And his singing voice does grow on one...though nobody can top Michael Crawford as the Phantom!

Anyways, Minnie Driver didn't sing because Carlotta had to actually have the range of an opera diva. From what I've heard of Minnie Driver's voice - okay, it's only from the song she sings at the end of PotO - I wouldn't say she has it. And I would imagine it would require immense training to sing in that manner, training I doubt Minnie Driver has.

My favourite line? Goodness, there are so many I love! Mainly they're from the songs:

From 'Masquerade'
Masquerade/Paper faces on parade/Masquerade/Hide your face so the world will never find you/Masquerade/Every face a different shade/Masquerade/Look around there's another mask behind you
Masquerade/Seething shadows breathing lies/Masquerade/You could fool any friend who ever knew you/Masquerade/Leering satyrs peering eyes/Masquerade/Run and hide but a face will still pursue you

Frightfully observant, really...

Anyways, ja ne!

POTO has been nominated for three Oscars!

The categories are:
*Original song= "Learn To Be Lonely"- music: Andrew Lloyd Webber; lyrics: Charles Hart
*Art Direction= Art Direction: Anthony Pratt; Set Decoration: Celia Bobak
*Cinematography= John Mathieson

Just in case anyone from the film is reading this (which I doubt, but what the heck?), good luck, POTO! You'll need it against "The Aviator," "House of Flying Daggers," "Shrek 2," "Finding Neverland," "Million Dollar Baby," "Sideways" and "Passion of the Christ"... but I hope you win!

I do, though, find it EXTREMELY unfair that we cannot vote on it, only the Academy can.

Good luck!

If I hadn't already heard you say this 6,972,401 times, I might be frightened. :P

Yep, POTO's up for three - although, considering some of the movies I've seen this year, I'm not positive I want to win them. Million Dollar Baby...*faints*. Ray...*dies*.

Although considering the three it's up for, I have no objections if it takes 'em all!
