I think Queen's fan base in America were rockers. In America, people tend to be extremely genre loyal, more loyal to genre than bands. So, when Queen became more of a pop group in the 80's, their rocker fans wanted nothing to do with it. Also, they lost the Album Oriented Rock aspect. I don't think homosexuality had much to do with it. The New York Dolls made it in the US for christs sake!
