Drowse

The slide guitar just elevates the song to a whole different level. Simply sublime. One of my absolute favorite songs done by Queen, let alone Roger.

I guess its like Marmite, as I think is completley shit. Probably even my worst Queen song. And Teo Torriate after it. No no no...

How you can not like Drowse AND Teo Torriate really is beyond me...

Well, I'm not a lover of many of Roger's songs and I hate all those kids singing in Teo Torriate. Its not bad when they do it live for the Japanese. The best bit of the song is the "stairs" guitar reprise at the end..

But thats just me, strange...

I more preffer Queen songs which are sung by Roger than some Brian's (except '39, SASS, Lost Opportunity and some others). 'Drowse' is good and it's in very special mood.

I think Drowse is one of Roger's best, I never did really take to I'm In Love With My Car and Radio Gaga, although I like some of his other stuff. Drowse IS special, I find that, unlike his other songs, it really has that unique Queen formula, that makes songs sung by Freddie special. I also think the sleepy sound produced fits in with whole sound of the song, and that it is a masterpiece that only Roger could create!

I absolutely adore Drowse. Its one of the best Roger, and Queen for that matter, songs ever written. Its bloody brilliant

I think if White Man wasn't on A Day At The Races, Drowse would easily be the weakest song on it.

I think Roger comes across as a really ace bloke, honestly I do, I just don't like his stuff much. Tenement Funster, Loser In The End, and Fun It are good though, and his later work is brilliant with Queen.

i love drowse!!! its so hot and trippy.... thats actually where the 'liquourice years' from my name comes from (strangely enough). my friend kept thinking that he was singing "liquourice years", but it was actually "middle age years". heheh...shes so retarded... but top song!! and its the only song that cheered me up when we moved to the middle of nowhere....i'd walk around, listening to it on my discman and wish i was back in, well at least near, the city...damn the country life!!

don't agree with that - they both are good songs in my view. Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy is the worst Queen song ever, as well as on A Day At The Races.

Yes, it's absolutely brilliant! The slide-guitar makes the song to a very special song, a gem!
Roger's voice fits perfect to this song, and I think nobody other could sing the song better! The lyrics are so good also, it fits with my life, and that make me think.

Definately agree that Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy is a much weaker song than Drowse. Drowse is so different from anything else really, and I guess that's what makes it so controversial.

But then again, so were Queen.

I actually like Drowse a lot. It has its own atmosphere, if you know what I mean. I was listening to the ADATR album in my car and wondering what I nice surprise it would be to hear Roger sing it at the new tour (I'll be attending Vienna, Munich and Leipzig, and I'm from Mexico).

Just imagine... the show apparently is over... the fans want an encore. The lights dim and that weird guitar sound starts, then we see Roger in front of the stage. It would be great for a "laid back" part of the show, as an intro to similar songs sung by him and Brian, just before the ass kicking finale with The Show Must Go On, Ga Ga, All Right Now, RockYou and Champions (or something like that).

Brian could sing Sleeping on the sidewalk, '39 or something like that.

I've always loved "Drowse" -- It makes me think of when I was in high school, of all the grandiose dreams my friends and I had, and the part about the pool hall is spot on...We used to play pool and smoke cigarettes in this real dive of a joint for hours every Friday night. The memories of those times, of how we felt, are totally enhanced by listening to that song. I'd love to hear it live, but I don't think Roger EVER sang it in concert.
