My favourite album is Queen II, what a masterpiece, it is so superb!!!!!!!!!

i never thought i will see albums like The Works, The Miracle and A kind of Magic in Queen's top 5, it is pretty surprising to me that fans will prefer these stuff over almost anything recorded by the boys during the 70's. not that these are bad albums, it's just that the early works are a lot better, in my opnion anyway. the only post 70's album i'll put in my top 5 is Innuendo, a great work of art.
i think my final list is:
1. A Night At The Opera
2. A Day At The Races
3. Queen II
4.Innuendo
5. changes every day - but just for the hell of it lets say... News Of The World, Sheer Heart Attack, Jazz and The Game all share this sopt :-)
ANATO is not only my Queen fav, it's one of my all time favorites, i don't think i will ever get enough of it. a masterpiece. on a second thought, that goes for ADATR as well.

and for the second part of the question:
Innuendo b/c it shows Queen's talents: Show Must Go ON is powerful as it Innuendo....good heavy rock songs too like Headlong and Hitman...Ride The Wild Wind and I'm Going Slightly Mad are brilliant....only weakness is Delilah and All God's People
Queen 1 is out there too b/c it's raw, shows their innocence, is heavy, shows their creativity and where they have come from...some of those melodies were being refined in their heads for years
Made In Heaven is close to the bottom because it's not a complete new album....only some songs are new and others are re-hashed b-sides or Freddie solo stuff...no true Queen album feel as there were no Heavy songs, just sadness...best track by far is Mother Love
Hot Space was just weak all round for Queen standards except Under Pressure.....Las Palabras and Dancer were okay....

I guess with Hot Space you either love it or you hate it. I love it. Im not sure if its my favourite album but probably my list would go something like this -
Hot Space
Queen
Jazz
Innuendo
Queen 2
Sheer Heart Attack
Made in Heaven
News of the World
Night at the Opera
The Miracle
The Game
Day at the Races
The Works
A Kind of Magic
A kind of magic had some good hits but the album itself was a pile of uninspired trash. In my opinion there only bad album. Everything else is brilliant.

I've been shocked with some of these replies! I have a much different taste in Queen than most of you, but I guess we all have different taste in music in general. Here is my list:
1. A Night At The Opera (Best album of all time)10/10
2. Queen II (Absolutely perfect, but falls a millimeter short of ANATO) 9.9/10
3. Sheer Heart Attack (Very underrated. This is just a wonderfull album by Queen)9.6/10
4. The Game (Another underrated album. This one doesnt have a weak track. I love it because it
includes all of Queen's different types of music)9.5/10
5. Jazz (Yet again, very underrated. Only a few weak tracks. Alot of very strong tracks here. Another amazing album)9.3/10
6. A Day At The Races (Beatifull melodies all the way through here. The ''least'' rock album for Queen, but some very great tunes)9/10
7. Queen (Amazing debut album here. Follow's greatly and has some superb tracks)8.8/10
8. News Of The World (Very good album by Queen, but it's the weakest of the 70's. It's a real rocking album, but it just doesnt compare to the
earlier 70's albums. Still great though)8.5/10
9. The Miracle (Best album of the 80's by a long shot excluding The Game of course ;). Has some excellent tracks all the way through.)8.3/10
10. The Works (Amazing follow up to one of the worst Queen albums. I find it doesnt even have 1 bad track. Good 80's album from Queen)8/10
11. A Kind Of Magic (Another solid album. Not as great as the rest, but still good. I dont see a single weak track on this one eather)7.8/10
12. Made In Heaven (Even if this is so far down the list, it's still very good. Doesnt really feature a rocker like in most Queen albums. It's more depressing because this was released after Freddie died. Still good nonetheless)7.5/10
13. Hot Space (Bizzare album. This is because they COMPLETELY changed the style of music from Rock N' Roll to disco pop. Personally not a big fan of pop at all. Still, this albums has 4 or 5 really good tracks and grows on you in a while. Good Queen title, but no good enough)7.3/10
14. Innuendo (Most overrated album by far. I find this album very good, but not as good as people say it is. I just cant get into it. A few good tracks here and there, but nothing special.)7/10

Hi!
Just charted the so far 35 complete lists in this thread. I left out "Flash" because few lists mention it. In 2 or 3 cases, one album was missing. I counted it as the least one. There are 14 albums, so I gave 14 points to the top one, 1 point to the last one.
Here's the results:
1 ANATO 389 points, Ø ranking 2.9
2 Innuendo 352, 3.9
3 Queen II 334, 4.5
4 SHA 332, 4.5
5 ADATR 295, 5.6
6 NOTW 274, 6.2
7 Queen 262, 6.5
8 Miracle 253, 6.8
9 Game 245, 7.0
10 Jazz 239, 7.2
11 Works 227, 7.5
12 Made in Heaven 170, 9.1
13 AKOM 167, 9.2
14 Hot Space 141, 10.0
No big surprises, I think.

12) DAY AT THE RACES (aka-The Where's Brian Album?)
The Where's Brian Album? Have you listened to it? The intro, Tie Your Mother down, Long away, White Man, Let us cling together..
Lord a'mighty, this is going to change every five minutes or so, I can't give you a reliable list! Ah well, here's the standings as they are now.
13) Queen
What do you expect? It's the first damn album. They're still a bunch of kids who need to eat and are still trying to figure out what the hell they are doing. It's not a bad album, it's just kind of lost.
1. they weren't a 'bunch of kids' Freddie was coming up 27 years old.
2. it was recorded in studio 'downtime' and i think this makes it raw, interesting and a great record - most bands' first outings are very interesting - Oasis 'def maybe' is another similar 'rough diamond' - but i suppose if you can put HOT SPACE at 4 in your list then that explains the antipathy towards I & II....still it makes the world more interesting that we all like/dislike different things
i love QUEEN - it's a great debut
my selection in (most recent) order of preference

5. jazz

it's wierd hearing brians comments on queen's first album, saying "i think it's strange how many queen fans say our debut is still their favorite, we were still searching for our musical voice" in a way i know what he's saying, they didn't develope their signature sound yet, but shown hints of it. In all i agree with "brenski" queen was a raw and heavy sound, yea their sound was still developing, but i still think it's one of their best, usually i say their first 8 were queen's prime (especially the first 6).
Brian does nothin' amazing guitar-wise on ADATR. "Tie your Mother Down" is the only decent guitar driven song. They would get it right the next time with their greatest album "News of the World"!
1. A Night at the Opera
Without a doubt the greatest album ever created. Death on Two Legs and it's incredible intro and biting lyrics. Lazing on a Sunday Afteroon with it's fun melody and awesome May solo at the end. I'm in Love With My Car, Roger's absolute best-sung song. You're My Best Friend, a classic Queen pop/rock hit that you just can't help but sing along to. '39, Brian's greatest work. Sweet Lady, amazing that this great rocker is the album's weakest song. Seaside Rendezvous, Freddie's best attempt at capturing times' long past. And then Side Two.....unbelivable. The Prophet's Song, pure prog rock bliss. Love of My Life, beautiful song, tops among any rock ballad. Good Company, fun little number that compliments the album well. And then of couse, Bohemian Rhapsody, the finest piece of music ever written by man, the greatest 5 minutes and 55 seconds music has ever seen. And they finish by making a national anthem, usually a corny piece of forced nationalism, sound amazing. Just an incredible album in every way.
