IRELAND+QUEEN=ROCK ?

Does anybody know if there is a reason why Queen + Paul Rodgers are not playing in Ireland cause it would sell out and be an unbelievable event. Im amazed they are not playing here usually every band will pop over when touring Britain

This has been spoken about before, mainly because of Paul rodgers prior committments I believe they still hope to do ireland & scotland later on

I hope to god they dont play the Point if they come(Although anywhere would be good.), the venue isn't the best for acoustics i love going to gig's in The RDS but if they could have come back to Slane that would have been amazing(INSTAED EMINEM IS PLAYING THERE) what a venue the sound quality is great there cause it's in a valley just like Glastonbury.

I take back what i said last night they are coming to the point and i'm just over the moon,I wonder when they'll go on sale dont want to miss out you know what ticketmaster is like over here the totes manage to get there hands on them before the real fans get a look in. oh i cant wait it's just made my day...xxx

I think the Point is perfect for the show. I was lucky enough to see them in Paris on 3 Mar 05....due to my impatience to see them and the late addition of The Point to the tour. I saw them play Slane but they would never fill that again without Freddie and besides the Point allows them to make best use of their light show which is amazing as always...hopefully the Point will be a bit fuller than when Brian was here in 92...the poor chap played to virtually empty venue. Paris audience were really up for it when they played there I only hope we all give them an excellent Irish welcome this time around. PS. It will be my unborn child's second Queen concert...how about that for an early start as a Queen fan!!!

The_hero That was 19years ago ireland is a very different country these days have you ever been here..i was at that gig and from what i remember (i was only 7) the riot was totally blown outta proportion...what do you think there's gonna be riots on may 14th...i dont think soooooo..

I think there was some fighting in the crowd during or after "seven seas" and the band had to leave the stage or at least stop playing for a bit. Brian was almost hit with a beer can or bottle at the end and was allegedly not keen to do the encore. I'm not sure if god save the queen was played or not as that may very well have caused a bit of trouble too(I don't think it was played). But I was too young to be there so all this is second hand info.

Basically thats what happened a few drunk assholes going a bit crazy maybe riot wasn't the best phrase i could have used!!!!! "Freddie vowed never to play Ireland again after that" (Mercury and me by Jim Hutton) so were very lucky over here that all is forgiven and there actually gonna play in dublin....Cant wait xxxx

by the way ticket sales are going it doesn't look like Ireland and Queen will rock. At this stage the point will be empty by the time the concert rolls around.

Considering the ZERO promotion of the concert, having sold a few hundreds tickets is not too bad.

I was at Slane in 1986.

A few facts:

There was no "riot" at the Slane gig. There was a scuffle/disturbance/fight in the crowd (of 80,000) between a few people near the front of the stage. Freddie stopped the show for a minute and checked that everything was ok. The show continued then without any further trouble. Some idiots did throw a couple of things on the stage during the show but I did not see any of them hitting any of the band.

I read "Mercury & Me" by Jim Hutton but cannot recall reading that Freddie vowed never to play Ireland again. Are you sure about this?

Where / when did Brian say that playing Slane was a bad experience? Funny that he played Ireland again on a few years later in The Point, Dublin as par of his solo tour.


All seats for the upcoming show in the Point are sold out. Only standing room is left. Who said that only a "few hundred" tickets have been sold???
