Hi,
http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/

That goes to Digidesign Pro Tools, Free.

I just downloaded this, decent featured package. I am usually a Sound Forge from Sony user myself.
However, this Pro Tools software, seems to be more MIDI orientated. The lingo leads me to think I've got
another wave editor, again, I literally just downloaded it and have yet to install anything.
I've heard of the program before and this free download is probably something new. It is designed to work with
MAC and PC.
Anyone else know of it, please write of it.

Thanks

Protools is a serious multitracking studio..used for recording in a lot of profesional studios.
It is problematic though especially for a first time user (like me)and some indepth setting up will be required to get it to run smoothly.
For my money and ease of use I use (and can highly recommend) Cakewalk for multitracking. Cakewalk needed no setting up at all and had no conflicts with my fairly simple soundcard, also it records great and has some nice effects for guitar and vocals. Both Protools and Cakewalk will record your homegrown music to seperate wav files that can be mixed and mastered down to one wav file before converting to MP3. The only thing is that because they record to wav it will use a lot of space on your hard drive so be careful. Also the more tracks you add the more CPU is used, so also be careful there.

P.S. not sure if this is the forum section for this topic but have fun anyway with Protools
Cheers

Just remember this is not supported under XP. It's a windows98se/ME release.

If you've got a decent soundcard, it should be all right. But really, I'm not sure as I stick to CubaseSX mainly.

Here's what I heard:

"If you've tried "Pro Tools Free" and got fed up with its limitations, or its instability on a PC, or just can't use it because your computer is too modern (PTFree doesn't work with Mac OS X or Windows XP)..."

Peace,
Adam.
