Freddie forgot lyrics on many occasions. Making a fus about it is just another proof that many Queen fans are unfortunately thick. Really thick.

i don't think they're too happy with that performance...but give them time...by brixton i hope everything will be glued together.
Freddie: "Yes, we'll have a great big cock fly over the crowd!" Roadies: "Yeah! Great Idea!" Freddie: "And it will fly into a great big mouth with a moustache!"

i thought it sounded good, liked it an am excited about the tour. so they made some mistakes..at least they know now and can work on those bits before the tour proper.

Let's remember here Paul is not stepping into Freddies shoes, replacing Fred, etc. Brian, Roger, and Paul have all said that.

If you expect Paul to replicate Fred's delivery...well you are going to be disappointed. Paul has said, as well as Brian many times that he is going to deliver/sing the songs in his own way and be himself. That might be why Brian and Roger wanted to do this tour and like Paul because they WANT a thier music delivered in a slightly different way and they want to take it to a different level. They don't want to be a Queen tribute band in full costumes, light shows, etc. For me- I don't want to see a Queen tribute band, I want to see the boys and hear some great music. Again I have said this before-have an open mind. We may not get the opportunity ever again to see Brian and Roger play together in a full show after this tour...and quite frankly it took a lot of guts on Paul's part to take this project on!! He needs our support and respect, not criticism.

Not the forgetting words that is the problem - it is the crap delivery.

I agree. Forgetting the words and skipping lines is all part and parcel of live shows..that's the difference between recording and touring. The biggest problem with this tour is the delivery and interpretation of the songs by Paul. This tour expectations are way too high in my opinion...people who are going to more that one show may feel that after being disappointed at their first show may decide to sell their remaining tickets. I know I'd feel that way!!

A review of the Fancourt show says that he thought there was friction between Paul & Brian and that he was more comfortable singing Bad Company songs. Apparantly Roger looked knackered after 3 songs but managed to finish the 80 minute set!! Too their credit, they're finding their feet and things will get better but they only have a week to do it!

If reviews and personal opinions about this tour are bad this could end up as being a gamble which backfired spectacularly well. Ask yourself this question after Brixton...after tonight's performance would you gladly go and see them again or are you more than happy to have seen them on this overhyped tour!!

I've always had an open mind about this tour and have told people to expect good rock'n'roll. That goes without question but the real problem is with fans conception of what they expect and how they deliver on the night. I'm just content to see one show on this tour. As they say the only opinion that matters is your individual one so you have to attend to really form an opinion.

Paul is in a no win situation I guess, being compared to Freddie by some people and forgetting lines and changing arrangements of songs to suit his style. My final judgement of this tour will remain "wait and see how it develops".

One final point, Queen have done what in their minds is a cadinal sin....the use of backing tapes(with the exception of Bo Rhap!).They apparently used these for Fat Bottomed Girls and Radio Ga Ga. What the **** is going on here!!

I'm looking forward to reading reviews after Brixton. Should be interesting to say the least!!

Freddie played with Queen over 700 concerts and forgot lyrics on some of them, Paul played just one and forgot either. Freddie performed over 25 tracks at each show and forgot just a couple of the words. And he didn't read them from displays. That's the difference. That's not a perfectionsts' way. There's no problem that Paul forgot them and I'm not making fuss about this. Good luck to Paul and Brian, Roger on their tour.

PS: Only one proof of that Queen fans are thick - is their habit to blame others' opinions.

The difference is- he bloody wrote them!!!

The bottom line- comparison like that you can do when Paul sings 700 times- otherwise you're comapring 700 gigs and 20 years of career to ONE GIG. And taht would be just laughable...

Anyway- I'm waiting till Brixton. If he fucks up there- I'll be the first to criticise. Judging everything after just FIRST gig is IMO ridiculous. I'm not happy after that one either- especially the fact they used tapes, but... 46664 was crappy the first time, was crappy now. Brixton should be entirely different story. we shall see.

"There's no problem that Paul forgot them and I'm not making fuss about this. Good luck to Paul and Brian, Roger on their tour. "
And that's exactly my point- it can be an issue if he keeps doing that throughout the entire tour... I didn't like what I've seen from fancourt, BUT- there's still a strong chance of everything being OK... If not- well, never again... :)

Some people are a bit quick to critise aren't they?!

Very quick to critisize. But what would the Queen fandom be without excessive complaining?

Listen,

If you are critical to the point where forgotten lyrics AND/OR a different interpretation of the vocal phrasing displeases you, than I can guarantee
you will walk out of the show feeling let down.

The only way you will enjoy the show is to have a completely open mind about hearing a fresh take on material you are very familiar with. You have to be willing to embrace spontaneity and improvisiation.

That is one thing I really like about Paul. Not only does he not cop Freddie, he doesn't even cop himself. Listen to the differences in his delivery between the Hall of Fame gig and the 46664 gig with regards to WWRY/WATC.

Paul has always been about feeling the moment and going with that as opposed to perfect renditions of recorded music. That is a long standing approach of blues/soul music and that's the background Paul comes from.
Brian and Roger fully realize this and that's how they want their songs
delievered.

It's all about that fantastic moment where everything clicks in a spontanieous magical way. Sometimes you have to drudge thru crap to get there, but when it clicks, it really clicks and you can only get there by taking some risks.

Good post, Knute.

They all fell flat on there ass..........deal with it.......There's no fuckin way they should have taken this tour on and I hope they fail.......I never thought I would say that about them but they have no business this late in life tryin to resurrect something that has long been dead.....I like how you people keep giving your OPINION on what a Queen fan is and what makes a Queen fan loyal and disloyal....I guess you all have written the book on that huh?? Anyways, just because a person wants to open there eyes and not be blind to the fact that they sucked then you are the true simpleton and the one that should be critizied not the people with there eyes, ears, and minds open and tell the truth on them.....If bashing them for doing an unforgiveable thing in my book in doing this stupid ass tour in the first place because it is an insult to Freddie, makes me NOT a Queen fan in your book then please list me some reasons why I would really give a Rat's ass wheather you deem me a fan or not?? I mean really people you are all fuckin strangers who will never meet one another and have no control in the destiny and direction of the other's lifes on here so save your breath and keep your stupid ass opinions and putdowns to yourself...........Later
Dislocate your spine if you don't sign.....He say's I'll have you seeing double

....and if you have the attitude of lyricalassasin

Not only will you not enjoy the show, but you will probably be arrested for beating someone up in the parking lot after the gig.

You've hit the nail bang on the head!! You've got to be very open minded about this tour! Anyone expecting perfect renditions in the Freddie style or songs sounding like the records will be disappointed and let down.

Paul's background is soul/blusey as you say and I'm sure Bri & Rog want the songs delivered in a style which compliments them as well as Paul. That's one of Paul's strenghts maybe;he can deliver a different style of song arrangement to each song and live for the moment with more spontaneity. He's determined to stamp his authority and bring his own style. It's a risky strategy yes but that's what makes it exciting and fresh. He's bringing a new approach to what is a massive challenge. I'm sure he'll win the fans over in the end.
