Actually yeah, that's pretty much how it happened! Consult the work of virtually any credible religious scholar. The bible is a compilation of writings from about an 800 year period. Each book (or even part of a book) was just a single writing for its own purpose, and surely none of the writers had any clue that their writing would be included in a much bigger and very important book one day in future.
In the 4th century, the church in Rome picked whichever writings they liked, and then destroyed the rest (well, most... some have been discovered in the last hundred years or so, and they're fascinating beyond belief!), but that's another story altogether...
So, it wasn't one schmoe... it was at least 70. :)

And i think its sad that you live in believeing in that you will come to paradise when most likely you will just dissapear forever or rebirth as another creature...
