A lot of people only wants mp3 files, 'cause they think it's easier to handle, then let us (me and Rev) share mp3 files and you that doesn't want mp3-files, don't download it then. You share FLAC we share mp3. OK??
Why is it so hard to understand that the quality of these recordings has to be preserved? That you don´t have a proper internet connection to dl flac files that´s your problem. And if some people think the quality of bootlegs was crappy anyway, so there was no need to preserve it, then please stay away from these recordings and listen to your studio albums. These rare recordings should be treasured by us fans, we have to do our best to preserve the quality and to make them available to other fans in the best quality possible. And that are lossless formats and not mp3. If you want to listen to mp3s for yourself, that´s ok of course, but when it comes to sharing/trading lossless formats must be used.
Mp3 players are common in car stereos and home stereos. There is almost no reason to convert an mp3 file to wave format. There also seams to be an overblown fear that some seedy traders MIGHT try to pass off mp3 files as lossless.
I have an idea. Maybe alcohol should be prohibited again (another Prohibition) because of the carnage on the highways caused by drunk drivers.
Is that overreacting? Of course it is ... and trading of mp3's should also not be discontinued because there might be a few suspect traders.
Besides, a small sample of the traded item can be e-mailed to the worried trader to confirm that the item is lossless and not mp3 sourced.

That´s not an overblown fear. I have been trading live music for a long time (I trade other artists as well, not only Queen) and I know there is a serous pollution of mp3 sourced audios in many trading scenes. I guess they come mostly from people who dled shows from p2ps, then reconverted them and put them in trading pool.
Besides, a small sample of the traded item can be e-mailed to the worried trader to confirm that the item is lossless and not mp3 sourced.
That´s not the problem IMO. If a show is mp3 sourced that´s very easy to find out, just open the file in a spectrum analyzer. People who have an mp3 sourced show should mark them as such or stop trading them.

You are suggesting throwing the baby out with the bathwater. You are blaming all dl'ers for the pollution problem when it is really caused by a few seedy traders. Why should all the dl'ers be forced to use flac if all they really want is mp3.
You indicated you can use a spectrum analyzer to detect mp3 sourced material. Perhaps the serious traders should use the spectrum analyzer on e-mailed samples before a trade is made. Repeat offenders who repeatedly try to pass off mp3 sourced material as lossless can then be blacklisted by the trading community. This should help clean up some of the pollution and eliminate many of the trading weasels. This way everybody wins, and the common mp3 downloader is not punished.
