Student athlete turns tragedy into triumph
by Jennifer Crawford
Make a meatball sub as delicious as his mom's and you have won David Farr's heart. Farr, a sophomore at UCA, has had a very interesting life: one full of heartache, memories and many hard-learned lessons. Farr's large build and serious eyes may fool you. He is a genuinely nice guy -- a guy who happens to be more complex than most people realize. Farr, 19, hails from Star City but now lives in Conway and plays for the UCA Bears football team. Farr is a starting offensive guard for the Bears and considers football to be very important. It was the whole reason he chose to come to UCA. "The main reason I decided to come up here was because I got recruited really hard by the football team, and once I met Coach Conque I knew he was the kind of person I wanted to play for," Farr said.
Farr has been playing football since he was in the 3rd grade on Star City Pee-Wee. "I haven't missed a season since," Farr said. Farr has had many obstacles to overcome. "My dad died when I was five years old," Farr said. "The only real memories I have of him come from pictures. My mom just passed away this December -- she was the single most important person in my life."Farr's mother influenced his choices in life more than anyone else. "I remember getting a C in elementary school and crying the whole way home because I knew my mom wouldn't be happy," Farr said. "She gave me one of those really long lectures. "She was always really disciplined about grades and academics and making sure I kept my head out of the clouds and was successful."Farr has two older sisters and an older brother. They also live in Conway, but their lives aren't quite as together as their younger brother's. Though he doesn't seem to agree with a lot of the decisions his siblings have made throughout the years, he is still proud of them and loves them very much. "To be totally honest with you, I don't have much spare time. I am a pretty go-go person," Farr said.
Between his schoolwork, football and other commitments, there isn't a lot of open time left. In high school, Farr found himself getting very interested in Spanish. He took two years of Spanish in high school but credits most of what he knows to a friend who practiced with him. Farr traveled to UCA one year for the high school Spanish competition and came home with first prize. He also won the high school Spanish competition at the University of Arkansas-Monticello twice.Farr has goals set for himself. "I am getting a teaching degree in Spanish," he said. "Also, I am going to get my coaching endorsement, which will enable me to coach as well."
Farr's life has been a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs. He has experienced things most people his age have never had to deal with. These things have only made him stronger. Wise beyond his years, Farr has some advice for people his age. "Always be prepared for what is going to happen to you in the future," Farr said. "I know everyone knows that they are going to be on their own eventually, but it is hard if you aren't prepared. There is no such thing as too soon."

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me...
I'm the kid on the block
With my head made of rock
And I ain't got nobody
I'm the state-of-the-art
Gotta brain a la carte
I make the babies cry
I ain't one of the crowd
I ain't one of the guys
They just avoid me
They run and they hide
With my head made of rock
And I ain't got nobody
I'm the state-of-the-art

GOD! YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO LIVES. I'M LEAVING!!!That's a little uncalled for, But, Farewell to you.
I learned that in that movie with Michelle Pfeiffer.
it sounds like someone has a case of MegaMikeitist....
I hope you don't come back to the chat, that's for sure. You were very annoying last night. SallyJ was more than patient with you.
I arrived the moment y'all were exiting the chat, Lisser. I thought it was because of Mahler that you left.

Damn Erin!! I left bc Jaye left and Mahler was the only person left to talk to. I kinda got tired of him begging me to come to Cape Cod and sit on the beach in between him and his wife.
I also had to reboot bc I dl'd that DVD of Brixton 2005. I couldn't close the seeding without rebooting. I watched the first 2 discs. It is awesome!! Have you seen it?
BTW *ahem* I seeded it for two days!! I'm a good girl aren't I?
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me...
...I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, in the jingle-jangle morning, I come following you.
Trivial info: 'Mr. Tambourine Man' is '60s slang for a drug-dealer.
Is it a Bob Dylan or a The Byrds song... it always confuses me
It was written by Dylan, but recorded by both. I like the Byrds version (big fat rickenbacker 12 string... mmmmm...)
Yeeep!!! where were you Barry? I needed you to defend my honor!! You know I'm frightened of conflict!! I can't hold my own!!!
