There are instruments that sound worse when played horribly (oboe? anyone?).

And I'm just waiting for someone to grill you on your "not being able to tongue" remark.

Any of the reed instruments sound like ass when not played correctly. I hate people who picked up a sax and just blew into them. That is why I served 10-15 years.
...this kettle is boiling over... ...one dump...one turd...two tits...John Deacon... ...one prawn...one shrimp...one clam...one chicken!

16 isnt too old to learn an instrument!! im about to learn the drums (when my brother in law finally decides im worth the time!!)but dude! like someone said, start with the piano... if i can learn to play a few songs in less than a week, anyone can learn it! and writing music isnt that hard. took me two days to figure out the basics (for piano... i dont actually write it though). go ahead... start a band, and i'll be there with bells on and glow sticks to cheer you on (and borrow money most likely). rock on!

ive just thought of another thing you could do... sing! its not hard! just take drugs, drink and smoke to get the rough edge and sing your favourite song! its how most rock stars do it... well the hardcore ones anyway.

LOL... must add a reply to this cos i'm an oboist (thanks Victoria :P) but i'd have to agree that double reed instruments are particularly difficult, it is incredibly hard and one could liken the sound to a duck when people start. However! the key is not to give up... i've played the oboe for around 9 years and just passed my grade 8. It IS one of the most beautiful instruments there is when played properly.

Hell yes...I played French horn for two years, decided I didn't like it, and gave it up. Now I regret it...the only thing I remember how to play is the New World fucking Symphony, and one line of it to boot.
God wants you to send me some money. "Seven spades doubled, vulnerable, making seven? You BITCH."

Chezza, that's what I was saying. The not so great technique ones, dear. ;)

Awesome oboes are awesome!

Now let me see; you spend half your time telling people (or more likely: boring people with telling) how good you are, you think of yourself as the best ever musician in the world (have you ever even WRITTEN a song?), you consider yourself to be God, or the next best thing, and you insult people because you feel superior (please see your first few posts in this topic). Is that enough for ya?

*high fives Thomas Quinn* nailed him. ;-)

Violin sounds awful if you're not able!!!! :D

Anything too stupid to be said... is sung.

Its never too late to start an instrument. Its a great way to relax in the evenings. Cheaper and safer than drugs anyway!

And yes, I had never noticed any of his postings on the board, but _amadeus_ really is a bit of a twat isn't he?
The one and only DeaconJohn - As seen on page 81 of the Q Magazine Queen special.

If you have a desire to play an instrument then do it. You don't need to be virtuoso to enjoy it and it will bring you pleasure for decades to come.

Any instrument sounds bad when it is played wrong.
Of course!
But that doesn't mean it won't sound bad all the time. It just takes time and practice.
If you're really dedicated, you'll do good at ANY instrument you want to play.

I don't get goosebumps when I play clarinet.
