LOL yeah, John I'm getting there. I'm not clueless, but I'm not a tech head either. I'm sure I will understand it fully when I study it a bit more. As Alex said, you will never get a "clean" vocal, but this might just get you there. I just put this up for other people who might be interested in this.

Does no-one use Audition Pro's vocal exposer? It does a pretty amazing job of cutting the rest of the track out to leave just the vocal. It's not perfect and can leave behind some track, but the clarity of the vocal is pretty amazing.
