Nah, I expect it to be pretty decent. Most UK TV drama 'Christmas specials' are pretty good episodes of their series - witness last year's "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" two-part finale, or the "Jonathan Creek" specials, for example.

Besides, the episode has to pack some sort of a punch as one of the main things it has to deal with is how Rose deals with her best friend changing into a completely different person.

Oh, and explain how said person suddenly starts talking like he's from Paisley...

Series two news is coming out thick and fast today. I couldn't believe they'd be able to top the first new series, but it looks as if they may well make it even better - Anthony Stewart Head guesting, Stephen Fry writing, even bringing back Sarah Jane Smith, of all characters! Blimey!

Sorry, needlessly excited....

I was named after a Doctor Who character :)
"Brian May, Freddie will."

Sarah Jane smith? I wonder how they'll fit her in? Is it a cameo or proper role?

The Doctor should be the type of person to revisit old friends / companions ala the Second Doctor visiting the Brigadier in The Five Doctor's special.

Proper role, by all accounts. Looks like she'll be the major guest character in one of the episodes. Current betting is it'll be episode three (four if you include the special) "School Reunion".

Indeed, they released the photos last night. Quite good, I thought.

Well the new Dr Who ahs made me realise 2 things.

.1. Dr Who isn't the shittest show ever after Star Trek. It's just the previous series which were shite. Dr Who 2005 is actually great. 2006's better be aswell.

.2. I have fell in love with Bille Piper...Again.

Pieter - that was "The Ultimate Adventure", back in 1989. From what I've read it sounds absolutely dire and really rather embarrassing, but who knows? It might have had a certain fun, camp value to it.

Well I was only 10 at the time, but it was really exciting to see Daleks and Cybermen and Jon Pertwee in person. If I saw it now it would probably seem crap, but at the time is was a lot of fun!!

Right, well, Dr Who has finally arrived here. We've just finished the farting aliens story and I'm enjoying it so far. Even with Billie Piper who pleasantly surprised me. I really, really don't like Mickey though and Rose's mum is a pain in the arse, I hope she settles down a bit now that she knows what's going on.
It's one of my top 3 shows at the moment, which admittedly isn't saying much, but at least I'm finally being educated :-)
Note: I want a TARDIS.

I thought most women already had a TARDIS?

We men call it a handbag...

The season really starts kicking into gear now dragonzflame. Wait until you get to episodes nine and ten - televisual perfection with ice and a slice of lemon.

Bump for Dr Who! Just been reading this over now that we're almost done - just the final two to go - and I must agree, the evil Blitz kid one was class. Haven't had prickles on my neck like that for ages. I haven't missed an episode yet, and I'll be sad to see Christopher Eccelston go because he's been awesome.

So has new season two started yet?

Down here in the UK, the second series is currently being recorded. A Christmas special will come either Christmas Day or Boxing Day and the second series will start around about mid-March next year.
