Radio 2 listeners were aksed to vote for the best five songs over the past 5 decades and this is how it lined up:

They chose:
1-Angels by Robbie Williams,
2-West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys,
3-Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen,
4-Space Oddity by David Bowie and
5-You Really Got Me by the Kinks.
i think its an insult to finish behind those 2 songs.

Actually, the listeners chose the best song per decade:

1955-1964 The Kinks - You Really Got Me
1965-1974 David Bowie - Space Oddity
1975-1984 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
1985-1994 Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls
1995-2004 Robbie Williams - Angels

That puts things a bit more in perspective I think (although, still, West End Girls?!?)

So in the years where bands like Nirvana, soundgarden, Pearl Jam or Guns'n'roses came out the best thing was West End Girls

Not all of Radio 2 is crap! If you have a spare 10 mins one day, go to the Radio 2 website and click on Steve Wright's show. There is a section called Ask Elvis. Have a listen to some of them, especially Stairway To Heaven. You need Real Audio player to listen

Hmm, I like West end girls, but it can't even be compared to Bohemian Rhapsody!!!!

In my oppinion there could have been more songs from the 60's. That's probobly my favourite decade. So many great songs were made in the 60's.
But I still love queen
John 3:16.....
