English Project

I just finished my English project that I will be presenting tomorrow. It's worth a major grade. I had to put together a cd with songs that describe each act the best. We have to present the lyrics in a fashionable way (I made a book that has some pictures) and make a seven paragraph essay. We have to have at least one song, but we won't get extra credit if there's more. I think this is the best project I have done yet. Here's the track list for my cd (all of the music is by Queen if you haven't figured it out by now). Obviously, my explanations aren't this short an vague for my paper, but I'll make it brief so it's easier to follow:

Act 1
-Dreamer's Ball (Romeo can't get over Rosaline and is living in his own little world)
-You Take My Breath Away (when Romeo first sees Juliet)

Act 2
-Breakthru (I know the mood is a little cheery, but the lyrics go
great with what Romeo said at the famous balcony scene)
-You and I (Mentions moonlight, darkness, not being able to foresee
future years, everything is going to be alright tomorrow, and it talks
about tonight. It's perfect because Romeo believe fate was already
decided for him by the stars and they did not know what the future
would be like because of the feud between their families. He had to
talk to her that night so he wouldn't be seen and planned to marry her
the next day (tomorrow).

Act 3
-Bohemian Rhapsody (Romeo killed Tybalt to avenge Mercutio's death.
Boh Rap talks about how someone killed another person and wished he
was never alive. That person was also taken away. Romeo was banished
and he was debating about killing himself since he would never be able
to see Juliet again.)
-I Can't Live With You (Romeo and Juliet wishing to be with each other
but can't.)
-I Want to Break Free (Juliet's father arranged her to marry Paris
when she's already married to Romeo but they don't know. Juliet
doesn't want to be dishonered by her family, but her live is being
controlled by them and she can't stand it.)

Act 4
-My Life Has Been Saved (Juliet had no idea what to do because of her
wedding to Paris that was going to be held in a few days. She was
planning on killing herself if Friar, her last hope, couldn't help
her. Friar came up with a last minute plan and she was relieved. This
song talked about death and lies and I thought it was perfect since
her life was a lie because she hid her marriage to Romeo from her
family and she came close to killing herself.)

Act 5 (I think these songs can go without explantion to you)-Who Wants to Live Forever
-One Year of Love
-Too Much Love WIll Kill You (The best song.)

Thanks. Every time I listen to the cd I appreciate it more and more. I think it's perfect. But what's really freaky is how well Bohemian Rhapsody describes Act 3. It is almost too good to be true, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's the meaning of Boh Rap.

Here's a little exerpt from my summary thing (about Boh Rap..I still had to describe two other songs for this act as well):

"Benvolio adn Mercutio wbere chatting and Tybalt came along in search for Romeo. Then Romeo entered and Tybalt began to fight Mercutio. Romeo did not want them to fight nad stepped in. However, this allowed Tybalt to stab and kill Mercutio. Romeo, without thinking, killed Tybalt to avenge Mercuitio's death. After that, the Prince came and Romeo was banished. Romeo would've been killed, but hte Prince was related to Mercutio and since Tybalt killed Mercutio, Prince Escalus thought it was fair. Romeo was very depressed that he could not see Juliet anymore and did not appreciate the fact that his life was spared ["Mama, just killed a man. Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger now he's dead...I don't want to die, I sometimes wish I was never born at all."]. Romeo had only started his new life with Juliet for a day and he ruined his chance of being with her ["Mama, life had just begun, but now I've gone and thrown it all away."].

Ah, you're right. That would've been a great one for Act 3 as well.

I also thought it was so awesome to end it with Too Much Love Will Kill You. My teacher needs to give me kudos for that. ;-)

Thanks everyone for wishing me luck. I spent about 11 or 12 hours working on it (we had over a week). It was really hard to find good pictures, and I tried to be neat when I was using my mum's scrapbooking stuff to center the frames. But for the most part I actually had fun working on it. Of course, I am really excited to let my whole class listen to Queen (even though we can only play about 30 seconds of each song) since the majority of them listen to rap. hehehe

I've never read Romeo and Juliet (just in 8th grade (well, summer now, but was)), but does anybody die in it? 'The Show Must Go On' would be good to add to a part like that :D (Unless ofcourse, the show was over then O_o) :D

Yes. They both died in the end. The Friar's message did not get out to Romeo (who was banished) so he did not know that Juliet took the potion that made her appear dead. After Romeo visited her body he killed himself by drinking poison. Then Juliet woke up and saw him dead. She took his dagger and stabbed herself to death. In the very end both families saw how great their children's love for each other and reconciled.

So, I think Too Much Love Will Kill You is great because they both killed themselves since they felt they could not live without each other's love.

Ya, Too Much Love Would Kill You is a good ending :)
