How do you currently feel about 'Queen" of today?
Do you think they have lost there edge per say, and have sold themselves out, or do you feel things are fine and that the Band are charting new frontiers and advancing the Queen name in a good way?
With some of the recent moves that have happened recently, one has to wonder from a fan perspective....at least i do.
I'm not trying to start anything negative, or create yet another thread on here that will end in a vicious bloodbath between riled posters....just thought it would be of interest to see what the current fan consensous is regarding the activities of there favourite band.
What are your thoughts on "Queen" today? Do they still excite you or do you find things becoming a bit of a rehash?
All views wanted so please be as through as you wish! I am very interested in hearing everyones opinions on this!

I agree with the_hero. Personally I'm proud that Brian and Roger are still rocking after all these years! I think it's great that they're willing to explore new things and be creative - and that they didn't just jump into touring with any random person on vocals. I wish they'd announce whether or not they're coming to the US! For all of us that never got to see Queen live, it'd be amazing to get a second chance.
Seeing Queen Live still excites me. You do not get many oppertunities to see a band that was formed over 30 years ago, and had the tragedy of their lead singer passing away.
The energy of the set is still there, and I think the set is very balanced from a mood perspective.
It would be interesting if Paul and the guys recorded new songs, it is not as if both Brian and Roger have not recorded new songs since Freddie passed away.

Not sure how to start here, but i for sure mean that this is the new beginning. I was so blown away at the concert, so much energy created, I almost faded away. Totally blow my mind for sure. Can only imagine how i would react if Freddie still was around.
I have a good feeiling about this, the only thing i miss is some new material. Can`t really judge it by the old material, got to have something new to really feel how it feels. But i`m positive, and they all are great musicians, so i think that the only way is up!

did they lose the edge? Quite opposite. In fact- you need to have some balls to go on tour like that! They could have been shot down in flames, many fans can't accept the simple fact that the life goes on, it WAS risky... They lost the edge in 80s- albums like Works or AKOM had nothing to do with taking "risks". The new thing with Paul... It was a greatest hits package, yes- but those hits sounded DIFFERENT and that was risky. I personally want a new album- would that be bluesier...? Would that be commercial...? The fire is still there. Roger was awesome, so was Brian. They played REALY well. I can only hope for 2006 Tour... :)

I was never lucky enough to see the band with Freddie, although I did get to Sheffield, which I have to say, I felt as though I had been orbited to another planet, and didnt arrive back at earth until 3 days later!
The show was unbelievably fantastic, I particularly enjoyed Rogers voice, and thought the whole band worked well together. For me the main point to remember is Paul isnt there to replace Freddie, and I like to seperate it into Queen with Freddie and Queen with Paul, that way I
can compare the Queen of today, with the one
from previous years, I'm not able to compare them live, obviously, but from what I saw, there is noone else I would rather see live, NO-ONE.
I like Robbie Williams, and I like Madonna, but
if I had to chose it would be Queen EVERY time.
For me, they are soooo LOUD and the power of Rogers drums, the sounds Brian gets out of his guitar, the lyrics, lets not forget the lights,
the electricity in the crowd, everything, is awesome! I used to think in the 70s Queen were
'strange' until Bo Rhap, then I started paying attention, when I saw them at Liveaid I said to my husband I must go and see them live, but of
course no-one was aware of the situation with FM.
For the last few years, I have been trying to find out much more about the band, and I think
there are so many things that make them more interesting, and intriguing than any other band.
From the market stall / Biba days, Freddies piano

The fact that all 4 were / are talented writers and fantastic musicians, they were so different,
in the costume department, FM was such a perfectionist he would do anything he had to in order to succeed. The videos, people often laughed at them, but a few years down the line, we
all realise just how good they were.
To me, Queen have everything, and more. The only
thing I would like to see now is some new stuff,
and dream of another tour next year.
Have they lost their edge? For me No, I think one
thing that will be missed is Freddies writing, but
its not lost entirely, because Roger and Brian I think will use what theyve learnt from spending so much time with Freddie in the studios every
time they are putting something else together.
I just hope, that if they can, they put together
some more quality stuff, and maybe do another tour
but not overdo it. We all know how much we would love to see them, but as time marches on, and lets be right its hard graft for them, but we have
also had to do without them for so long, that the
anticipation of this tour, went along to making it so special. So we would be able to wait again
if necessary!

I was like 6 years when they last toured, so sseing them live was like a dream come throuhg. After listening to all their bits, memorising and imitating all the possible scene gestures, I finally got to see the (new/half/revived/altered - choose the most likely) band live.
And here is my point: if any new material shall rise from this rebirth I am sorry to say but it's most probable it will be like "Hot space" - collectors/fans only. Can you imagine people listenig to today's music enjoying their material? They kind of lost it. I'm not saying that they shouldn't tour anymore, but the venues won't get more filled than they currently were...
But we're not after that are we? It depends what are THEY after in the end.

But they still have quality and they still entertain. Its similar to the Rolling Stones. They don't really have any edge. If they bring out new material (have they in any recent years?) it might not light up the charts, but when they tour, they're gonna sell the tickets.
I'm really glad they did this tour, and I'm glad they got Paul Rodgers involved, because it means Roger can be behind the drums. His performances in front of the drum kit are great, but hearing him thundering from behind the kit is where we want him most.
New material? Why not. If with PR any such material should be marketed under a new band name, or at least under the Queen + PR label. They'll do the latter of course.
If just Brian and Roger, they could perhaps release it under the Queen name, as No-One But You set a precident, but I would expect lots of people ("fans") to oppose that.

Opposite to what Fenderek wrote: life goes on, that's why we have to accept that this life is going on without Freddie and John and that's why Brian and Roger didn't have to back to name "Queen" in this tour. Don't live in old days - life goes on, Queen is in the past.
I'm not gonna say "Queen RIP 1991", but just because life is going on I don't want them back to old name.

Roger's drumming's very strong and so is Brian's guitar work. I'm only hoping for a new studio record. Then one can actually compare old to new, speaking of their ability to write songs.
