i don't think YOU have grasped the principles of The Bosman Ruling

they are that, a player under contract cannot be approached directly, the management of his club must be approached and their refusal or acceptance is abided by.

a player under contract has to be told of an approach

a player under contract cannot talk to another club

finally, (and perhaps more importantly) if a player is under contract for five years he will be paid for five years, whether he is picked to play or not! he can if he chooses pick up his salary and waste away in the reserves. working in a bank is entirely different - the bank can "let you go" and only have to pay you a small severance - a month pay for every year you worked there....feel free to tell me how both cases are the same!

THis is bollocks. Illegal approaches have been going on for years. Tottenham had no qualms about hiring George Graham despite his history & don't even start about Terry Venables....

If the FA want to do something about it, fine, but it has to apply equally to everyone. The problem is it can't, because it's too widespread.

Having said that, Chelsea can't complain - they do APPEAR to have the arrogance to break the rules in public - and the punishment is shite. The fine is irrelevant (to be honest it would be for most Premiership sides), and the suspended points penalty is a joke. If you want to deter them from doing it again, it's a ten point penalty suspended for 5 years - that would make them more careful in future.

Finally, it's too late to complain about the inequality of the FA's punishment system. The time for that was when Rio Ferdinand got an 8 month ban for exactly the same offence as another player had been fined for a couple of months earlier.

I'm not talking about Bosman Ruling. I'm talking about Bosman offering support to Ashley Cole in the aftermath of the rulings against him.

Bad luck Spurs on fair play, but to be honest the whole thing is a load of bollock anyway.

but you referred to Bosman and didn't say why...anyone hearing football and Bosman in the same sentence is going to assume you mean THE BOSMAN RULING unless you say otherwise, and as for the BANK comment....it doesn't even bear scrutiny, sorry...but hardly anyone outside of prfessional sport gets a five year contract

and you only have to look at Ronaldo (Madrid) Raul (madrid) and denilson (betis) to see how much players can get contract-wise - these were ALL on 10 years contracts when they signed

As it goes, Matthew Upson is a good little player, and Stephen Clemence always looked like he might have promise when he was at Spurs.
